I have had trouble with Bruiser a grand total of once, and I have played two of the Characters to Ascesion 15, and Defect to 7 (I guess). It is trivial as long as one kills the damn Flames. That or Wraith Forms and bursts the Bruiser down while ignoring the Flames.
Then it sounds either rotten luck or like you built a deck that is incapable to deal with low health bursting enemies. In the latter case, that is a flaw in your design, not that of the Bruiser´s. Considering that those kinds of Decks are exactly what Bruiser is supposed to counter.
The third level only has two dedicated elites so far.
1: Focus down Bruiser superfast. Remember that if Bruiser dies, the Minions die too, and IIRC correctly Flame Orbs will never do their 25 damage attack on turn 1, so if you can land obscene damage combos you can finish him quick.
2: Use AoE to efficiently mulch minions while working down Bruiser. Flame Orb health is pretty lackluster so a good AoE can get them all.
3: Field ridiculous block, as IIRC the Flame Orbs blow up after hitting.
But otherwise he is very easy. Seriosuly 16-20 hp is NOTHING at this stage of the game. You should have both original orbs killed before they can do their big pop, and once you've gotten them down you fall into a nice and easy pattern. Kill the ball, leftover energy goes to Brand wannabe, and when he swings at you you block as much as you can and then you have 1 1/2 turns of free damage.
If you can't take him, you're deck was never going to beat the boss.
