Game not launching from Steam

Since recently, the game stopped working when launched from Steam. First time I try to launch it, I get the "Play Slay the Spire / Play With Mods" choice popup, but nothing happens after pressing play (game state doesn't display as "Running", process doesn't start, etc). Second time, I get a "Synchronizing Steam Cloud..." popup that never ends. When closed manually and launched again, the whole process repeats from the beginning.

Game works fine if I launch it directly from the exe or from SlayTheSpireTroubleshoot.bat, although in either case it fails to connect to Steam. I tried setting it to run as admin and all that, nothing made a difference. Looking at it through Process Monitor, it looks like Steam doesn't ever even get to the point where it tries to run the exe, it's just fiddling with save files/cloud sync and then gives up for seemingly no reason. Other games that sync their saves with Steam Cloud work just fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I cannot even launch it no matter what, Steam or .exe file, I have no idea, everything worked great a good while back, come back to it now when the fan mod came out, cannot even launch the standard game with or without mods. No splash screen or anything. Reinstalled several times.

Play with Mods shows "Could not connect to Steam. Is it running?"
I am guessing it has something to do with java perhaps? That is the only thing I haven't explored yet. I have a troubleshoot log, but dunno where to send it.

For what it's worth, this issue resolved itself for me after completely uninstalling then reinstalling the game. Seems like some sort of cache got messed up somehow. Might be worth a shot.

For whatever reason, for me, clearing the download cache seems to help with a lot of issues like the one you were describing.

Steam, settings, downloads, clear downloads cache.

I'm suffering from the same issue. I've tried EVERYTHING and it just won't load. How am I supposed to earn achievements if I can't even load it via Steam?! ****!

Yeah, it's also happening to me and I don't know how to fix it. :(
But If I try to open the .exe file of the game directly, It runs fine.

英文看的脑阔疼。我也是可能有相同问题。刚买游戏，玩了两天，就进不去了，从文件目录里就可以进去。
