Slay the Spire
Big Fish / Box / Omamori
At Big Fish I selected "Box", which reads: "Receive a Relic. Become Cursed - Regret.". The relic I received was Omamori ("Negate the next 2 Curses you obtain."). I also received Regret.

Because there is a period between "Receive a Relic" and "Become Cursed", I would argue that these are two distinct events. Omamori ought to have therefore negated Regret and entered my inventory with one charge remaining.

Wouldn't the logical steps be that you become cursed while opening the box, to find the omamori inside?

Arguably, the same statement could be made for the bell. Ringing the bell curses you, then the relics are summoned by the ringing.

Now that I think about it, the devs probably already thought about the logical process of what happens first. As there are events where you first obtain the relic, then the curse, and omamori will prevent that curse (as the obtained relic) .

Are you on beta? Omomori shouldn't be showing up for that blessing.
Omomori is considered a Common Relic, and is not part of the pool for that blessing. The only way you should have been able to get Omomori from the whale, is if you picked the Common Relic blessing(which has no drawback, so it wouldn't curse you), or if you got Calling Bell from the Boss Relic blessing(which can in turn give you Omomori). Furthermore, the blessing doesn't specify which curse you're going to get.

This was from the "Big Fish" event, not the whale blessing.

Oh, I didn't even realise that the Banana/Donut/Box event was called "Big Fish". Why is it called that?

The object is attached to a string for a player to try and reach for. In carnivals and the like this is typically referred to as "big fishing". At least they were in my hometown carnivals.

I've never heard of that carnival game before.
Then again, the only game I remember playing at the carnival was the one where you toss ping-pong balls into fish bowls, then you get to keep the fish in the bowl.
There was even a special prize for landing the ball in a specific cup(which I am positive was rigged to be impossible), which would win you an IGUANA. I am not even joking, you could win an actual, living, juvenile stage, green iguana... from a ball-in-a-cup carnival game. There's kind of a huge leap in disparity between the responsibilities of caring for a pet iguana versus a friggin goldfish.

Yes, those cups are inherently rigged to have "chokes" in them that make it difficult to land the ball on/in them. As in damn near impossible without dropping the ball down on it with no forward/sideways momentum.

The last time I had a fair that did big fish was when I was 6, nearly 22 years ago, and was discontinued for safety reasons. Stupid safety being more important than fun.
