Report a translation problem
I'm not too sure if we have a solution because we don't have too much control over low-level audio stuff. I'll take a quick check to see if this is a common problem with our engine though. Thanks for the bug report!
Not trying to necro/hijack the thread, but is seemed the most appropriate thread to pick up about the issue.
I use a wireless USB headset. I'm not sure if Glassia is using USB or plugged into the 3.5 jack. The problem seems to be when Windows switches what it considers to be the Default audio device. This normally works fine for things like Discord and Overwatch, XCOM2, etc.where the audio just transfers over to the new device.
In the case of StS, the app doesn't kick over. It just keeps producing sound on the original device. If I'm using my laptop and plug in my wireless dongle while StS is running, the game sound keeps chugging away on my laptop speakers, when everything else moves to the dongle and headset just fine.
The only solution is to restart StS.
Hope the extra input helps! :)
Ian.
I also am sorry for the necro but I think it makes sense to post here rather then making a new post.
I am using a 3.5mm plug plugged into the front jack of my desktop. Opening sound settings (right click sound and click "playback devices") I am presented with:
"Spearkers / Headpohones" which is the default, going to properties, I find it is for all jacks.
"Communications Headphones" which refers to my headphones. These can't become default.
"Digital Output (S/PDIF)" which looking at properties; "Rear Panel Optical Jack" which can become default if selected.
If I then unplug my headphones the first two become "Not plugged in" and the last becomes default. After plugging my headphones back in, the default is restored but the game loses sound.
Test 1: Making the 3rd the default. This does allow audio in my headphones but when I started StS, there was no audio in my headphones suggesting that the game only will use the default device. While I don't have any optical sound equipment so I couldn't test that, I did see the sound bars one the side changing when I started the game up.
Test 2: I disabled the 3rd option (optical) to prevent the default device being changed. Result: Sound failed in the original way: Unplugging and plugging resulted in no sound in headphones from the game but system sounds still worked. Instead of it changing device it just showed there was no sound.
I tried a few other little things to see if I could reset or trick it to do something different but nothing no new information was gathered so no need to type those out.
I will look around the interent and see if I could figure out a solution.
So after looking around the internet and having no luck I got an idea. The first audio device (see above) stops being the default device when I unplug my headphones but that device (look at properties) controls all 3.5 mm jacks, so, I thought if I plug something else in the 3.5mm audio jack in the back of my computer and unplug my headphones it should still be the default device because its still in use. So I took some broken headphones (just the plug with a cut cable) and plugged it in the back and started up StS and sure enough, the sound survives unplugging and plugging headphones.
Conclusion, if your desired default device controls more than one audio out then plug ANYTHING into one of the other jacks it controls and leave it there forever. As long as something is getting audio, it wouldn't try to change the default.
I'm really happy I found a workaround, I've had this issue with some other games and its nice to put it to rest.
Please comment if this helps or more importantly if it don't help. Also, if you have alternative solutions please speak up.
