Newbie Confused by "Unlock"

I'm new to this kind of card game. I've finished my first games (was beaten soundly by the first boss), and am taken to a screen that shows I have "Vanquished," and then it displays the floors climbed, enemies slain, etc. At the bottom is says I have 5 Unlocks remaining, and there's a button marked Unlock. I don't want to press it for no reason. What does it mean? Can I only play the game 5 times, and if I don't beat the boss by then it's over? I just don't get it. I can't figure out how to restart the game and try again. I'm just stymied! Please help.

lol, no, it means that you have 5 unlocks.

Unlocks meaning that you can 'unlock' better things that will help you to progress in the game.

And it's been awhile but I don't think you can just press it to do anything? You actually have to earn the points through play throughs to unlock the awards.

You are unlocking new cards to be seen in your future games. Also new characters i think.

Some of the cards and relics are locked when you first start the game, to not overwhelm you with all the different mechanics and possibilities when you're just starting out, and make the pools smaller and easier. Think of it as an insidiously clever, but sadly unskipable, tutorial.

I think your confusion mostly stems from the fact that this is a rogue like

Rogue likes means you don't get to try the fight again. Once you're death you have to start back from the beginning.

This may sound very punishing at first, but it actually is really addictive once you get into the gameplay loop

Also, while I don't recommend this, you can savescum by quitting the fight before your death. By doing so you can start the fight over.

You died. It's over. There is no "click this button to continue", you have to start back over from floor 1.

The unlock button is to unlock more relics and cards that will show up in future runs. As you get more experience you'll unlock more of them.

Click the unlock button, enjoy your new stuff, then start a new run from the title screen.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what "Lol, is your pfp a Mii?" means. (Well, I understand "LOL" and "is your" and "a" but I'm unfamiliar with "pfp" and "Mii") I suspect it's not terribly important, but if I need to know in order to enjoy the game, I'm happy to be enlightened.

pfp = profile picture
Mii = a custom avatar you can create on Nintendo consoles starting with the Nintendo Wii. It has a very distinct look, which is why the comparison was made.

Now you know. Alas, the knowledge won't improve your Ironclad runs or anything.

You can set custom images as your pfp lol. Or at least you used to be able to. That's how I got this guy as mine. Sure as hell isn't one from the point shop or anything lol.

Yeah, I know, that's why I was amused when I thought OP used a Mii for his.
