Steam Multiplayer - Together In Spire

Just for some background info i wanted to play some co-op with my cousin and was curious if anyone knew the difference of the two and which is better perhaps?

Together in spire lets you play together in the same fights. It's full co-op. Spire with friends has a lot less interaction between the two players. It's good if you want a shared experience that's still pretty true to the vanilla game. It also has a nice race mode for competitive play.
