Act 2, you need to worry about your single-target burst as all elites require you to quickly burn them down before the fight gets out of hand. Try to have a good AoE card to handle the hallway fights, there are a lot of multi-target fights (you can do without on certain setups). You can start to take a few utility cards or build toward certain synergies, it really depends what artifacts and cards you are presented with. Think of scaling damage, you will likely need some sort of scaling to defeat the boss. Scaling is things like strength, focus, ability to safely maintain wrath and deal consistent damage on watcher, poison, accuracy for shiv, etc.
Act 3, you need to make sure your defence is up to par, and patch any holes in your scaling damage. Most elites are like bosses in terms of health, and cannot be killed so easily. If you have a good defensive plan and damage, gg you win.
Yeah, what I said needed some elaboration, but I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tired and on my way to bed.
All good! Your explanation was fine but I felt elaboration was good. Because, while I myself understood this in theory, it was still a difficult thing to actively do. I'm still ass at this game at about 110 hours but I've learned "some" stuff haha.
Open the map and look at it before you choose anything from Meow.
What are your possible paths?
The first 3 fights in act 1 and the first 2 fights in act2 & 3 are from an easier mob pool.
This means that taking exactly 3 fights before your first act 1 elite leaves you with the most possible money, card rewards & highest chance for getting a potion while potentially minimizing the damage you take before the elite (because they are from an easier pool).
Having a Shop and/or Campfire before your first elite also helps a lot. Buying potions to kill an elite is a good idea. Paying ~60 gold for a fire potion is well worth ending an elite fight a turn earlier, thus saving 20 HP, which then allows you to upgrade at the next campfire instead of healing.
Use your potions.
Pathing: If you want to take on multiple elites, it's a good idea to choose a path that splits off in case an elite fight goes badly and you don't have enough HP to continue down the route you first chose.
Try to remember how much damage elites in each act deal to you on average.
