It feels like swapping your starting relic for a boss relic is really, really strong on average.
Am I the only one getting that feeling?

Silent has a terrible starting relic, so it's usually a good trade for her.
Ironclad not so much. Burning Blood is legit better than many boss relics.
And it's a bonus so it should be strong.

Funny. I like both starting relics. Never use the swap, really. It's nice to see other people do like this option. I thought the option was pretty useless. Nice to see I was wrong.

Why did you think it was useless? A number of the boss relics are exceptionally good. Especially for the silent.

Extra card is really good for the silent which often relies on setting up comboes.

Its only extra card draw on the first turn. Silent has enough cycle cards to make up for trading it away for a more impactful relic.

First turn is often one of the most important ones, as it lets you setup the folowing turns and prepare for the fight, and it gets better as your deck expands and you get card draw and energy. Are there better relics? Sure. But you could also get something like philosopher stone or ectoplasm which can be detrimental.

Or you could get Tiny House.

I'm uncertain about anyone else, but Philosopher stone is probably one of the best Energy gain relics. 2 strength for enemies honestly isn't much at all. The only time you'll really notice it is against a Book of stabbing.

Ectoplasm is also not that bad. Gold is less relevent when you have a decently crafted deck.

That's two decent relics you labeled as bad. Tiny House isn't good, you win that. However other relics, are good. Such as Experimental Specimen, which gives you a head start on a poison build. Or the relic that nets you potions after every battle, which pays in dividends. Or the relic that lets you draft 5 more cards, which can easily cause you to snow ball immediately due to having a deck with clear direction.

I fail to see how Trading away Silent's relic would objectively be bad. On average, you're getting a relic of similar, if not greater, power.

Starting relics is usually better than boss relics as a starting choice because most boss relics relies on the fact that you already have a fairly good setup to mak the relics work effectively. Many boss relics have significant downsides which can affect your early game severely, and many have effects which aren't as good until you have developed your deck or character enough to go through the first stage.

Burning blood is one of the strongest relic in the game, and while the Silent relic is worse, it is very good for starting term setups and gives the Silent more options, bear in mind that the Silent also have +2 more cards in her starting deck, which means that replacing the +2 starting hand can reduce your chance of drawing well.

There are many fights where +2 strength for the enemies matters a lot, notably almost every multi enemy fight, the three birds, gremlins, three slavers, the book, hexaghost. Add to that the fact that there is barely any benefit of +1 energy at stage 1 anyway, especially since almost every fight here is trivial and draw card cards are not guaranteed...

Potion after every battle is alright.

Getting ectoplasm as a starting relic is objectively worse than getting it later on, as it pretty much strips you off of guaranteed card removal, so you're mostly stuck with every curse you get in addition to opening cards. One of the few ways to manage your deck - and craft it decently is to use shops.

Both energy relics are better obtained at the first boss, and harm you pretty badly. Extra draw is always useful.

Some are really good, yes. But a lot of them are not. I rather stick to what I got instead of taking a gamble and risk ending my winstreak. Seems more consistently safe to me. Also. I really like both starting relics. I just assumed most players agree with that. I do not mind to find out I'm wrong.

Note that I do not claim to have the absolute truth. Some options work for some, not for others. And that's fine.

I feel like it's a sure way to ruin your run.

What if you trade in your +6 regen relic and get, say, the Lizard Tail? You've actually used your starting bonus to cripple yourself.

And if you get a good relic (like the Mark of Pain), then your playthrough will be a joke because it'll be way too easy.

Let gamblers deal with the overly positive or overly negative consequences of their actions. I'll be Goldilocks and aim for "just right".

Personally I don't think anybody who want a win streak would gamble away their relic on a boss relic, maybe the developers should look into how to make it better to entice players to pick that option.

I gave up on it when I kept getting snecko eye lol like it’s fun to use every once in awhile but it felt like it was always what I would get
