So they tried to slap a few bandaids on it, but the mode was just never going to work. Even without infinites you still have plenty of other nonsense like Mind Blast and Searing Blow. I think the devs realized it sucks, but they couldn't just remove content, so it just sits in the corner as a dumb thing you shouldn't play. Let the run have its natural endpoint.
That said though, I would not call anything that consistently plays 16 or more cards every turn 'standard'. You have to be doing something wild to get to that point.
But yeah, I can see why the option for endless is hidden in a slew of options in a custom-run menu. I mean, I still think they put next to zero thought into it, but I can also understand why some of the things are things.
