- when you'll be fighting those elites since hallway fights become more difficult whilst elites don't
- if there's a contingency rest site or branching path between them
- if you can get your first upgrade before the fourth hallway fight which is when the difficulty rises
- if you have enough gold to make use of certain events
- how much gold you expect to have by the time you reach a shop
I mean, generally speaking you're right, but I'm not sure how much more time I'd want this part of the game to occupy if they added more things to take into consideration.
Pathing can also be pretty circumstancial. If I have a super strong build then I will often take a couple elites on act 3 since builds are usually at their peak by then. And act 3 elites tend to be much easier. While I will avoid act 2 elites like the plague unless I have really strong front loaded AOE.
If you can take the elites, the best path is the max fires+elites you can get.
Act 2 "?" are super strong, especially with a juzu bracelet those may be worth more than campfires.
Maybe you`re going for a fat good stuff deck and then campfires are a weak option.
Maybe you have a lot of gold and need to unload into a shop
Maybe you`re hunting for a specific card in the shops
I'll usually try to avoid 2 Elites in a row if I can, preferring to have an out or campfire in-between if the first goes poorly.
Balance is usually the correct choice and typically by the end of the game I'll have visited each type of room about equally unless my relics dictated otherwise.
Rest Sites are safe, but safe doesn't help me get silly low-card combo decks.
