Path with most Rest sites - all the time?
I find I always pick the path with the most Rest sites. Somtimes there are a couple of choices but I bet most others do the same. This makes the map decision making kind of boring don't you think?

Question marks first for me, then rests and elites

It's not always as clear cut because numbers aren't everything. It also matters
- when you'll be fighting those elites since hallway fights become more difficult whilst elites don't
- if there's a contingency rest site or branching path between them
- if you can get your first upgrade before the fourth hallway fight which is when the difficulty rises
- if you have enough gold to make use of certain events
- how much gold you expect to have by the time you reach a shop

I mean, generally speaking you're right, but I'm not sure how much more time I'd want this part of the game to occupy if they added more things to take into consideration.

For me it's all about avoiding the elites. I scroll up, and read the map from top to bottom, if there's an elite I change the path. Sometimes you're kind of forced to though, and sometimes you get like 3 ? in a row before an elite so it's too juicy to pass up.

Maximum elites 95% of the time. Then rest areas, then ?s

Can be pretty different for a lot of people. I tend to prioritize a mixture of fires, question marks and shops. While almost always avoiding elites since I tend to value their rewards a lot lower than most. While other people will maximize elites and are willing to give up on said other things.

Pathing can also be pretty circumstancial. If I have a super strong build then I will often take a couple elites on act 3 since builds are usually at their peak by then. And act 3 elites tend to be much easier. While I will avoid act 2 elites like the plague unless I have really strong front loaded AOE.

That`s often the case, but it`s vastly deck dependent:

If you can take the elites, the best path is the max fires+elites you can get.
Act 2 "?" are super strong, especially with a juzu bracelet those may be worth more than campfires.
Maybe you`re going for a fat good stuff deck and then campfires are a weak option.
Maybe you have a lot of gold and need to unload into a shop
Maybe you`re hunting for a specific card in the shops

It depends, IF I have the Elites drop relics relic, then I go Elite hunting. Otherwise, it depends on my class. With Warriors healing, I take on as many normals as possible with ? second unless I need extra healing, with the Rogue, it depends on how many innate damages I've got. Being able to go turn 1 80dmg makes a lot of fights easier and with the Mage I avoid the all fights unless I've got some healing relics/repairs.

1st act I mostly go for elite, since they're not that hard, and rest site for smith. Act 2 and Act 3 i'll go for '?' and more rest site fot smithing. i prioritize merchant over everthing if im doing some speedrun to find specific cards.

Act 1 is Elite hunting, act 2 is ?s, and Elites if I'm really strong or nice and frontloaded, trying to hit a shop before the boss (I usually only hit 2 or 3 shops if I can help it, I like to buy really strong relics if they show up) and Act 3 I'll usually try to play safe, sometimes prefering a normal fight to a ? if my deck won't handle disruption very well.

I'll usually try to avoid 2 Elites in a row if I can, preferring to have an out or campfire in-between if the first goes poorly.

Hunting Elite with my Flex Whirlwind Ironclad is the best thing ever

The game does a good job balancing every type of room. Once you're more familiarized with the game, it's not always about the campfires. Obviously, campfires are good and you'll want to get them if you can, but if your path looks something like 4 campfires and 1 elite and you could have had a 2/3 campfire and 2/3 elite path you definitely should take the path with fewer campfires. The only exception to this rule is if you pick up an average card that isn't upgraded that becomes amazing when it is or if you get the shovel, girya, or peace pipe.

Balance is usually the correct choice and typically by the end of the game I'll have visited each type of room about equally unless my relics dictated otherwise.
I tend to plan my routes based around shops. If I see a path with lots of combat, sparse ? rooms and two shops, I'm very drawn towards taking that path.

Rest Sites are safe, but safe doesn't help me get silly low-card combo decks.
