desktop- 1.0.jar missing?

Hey, just yesterday StS was working but today it decided to stop. It mentions failing to initialize desktop- 1.0.jar. After verifying game files, the game fully downlaoded again and now ends with a disk write error. After hitting 'play', it drops the following message:
An error occurred while updating Slay the Spire (disk write error) :
D:\Steam\steamapps\common\SlayTheSpire\desktop-1.0.jar
Any help??

You're the second person with a disk write error related to this game, so if it doesn't happen when downloading or updating other steam games, you'd be wise to tell les devs on discord because you might not be able to do anything about it on your end.

There is a chance and the list is huge though, so the wild goose chase begins:

Im having the same issue. Yesterday the game was running fine, today the disk write error into desktop-1.0.jar happened

15 min later update: Check anti virus. Avast had taken my .jar in quarantine and didn't notify me... Lovely

Removed the file from quarantine, I updated game files and all went back to normal.

Follow the filepath and see if the file exists. If it doesn't, then it's likely either a permissions issue (Steam couldn't install it) or your antivirus is deleting it.

The alternatives (doesn't exist but not one of those two issues or exists) are far more annoying to deal with.

UPDATE: I've forgotten to update this, but yes, disabling the antivirus fixed it for me. I use Avast, don't know if it's the only exception though. If anybody else is experiencing this issue, check your antivirus chest to make an exception for the blocked .jar file. Thank you all for the responses!

Same thing just happened to me. Yesterday I played STS, and today it wouldn't open due to desktop- 1.0.jar missing. I came here, read the previous comments, and tried the advice regarding adding the file as an exception to Avast (in Avast, click Protection, then Quarantine, and then for the desktop-1.0.jar file click Restore and Add Exception). Worked like a charm. Many thanks to everyone who has posted -- you just saved my sanity. I would never have figured this out on my own.

This is exactly what happened to me and I couldn't figure it out until I tried this.
