Slay the Spire
I beat the game first try?
I'm just wondering if that's good, or normal, or what. I just bought the game like two and a half hours ago, and started playing exactly two hours ago, and beat it first try with the Ironclad using a strategy that mainly revolved around getting insanely high block using a bunch of Defend+ cards and Entrench, then one-shotting everything with Body Slam. I won't lie, I'm a little proud of myself.

I guess I'm just used to roguelikes beating the crap out of me, with Risk of Rain 2, Sky Rogue, and Nova Drift all taking me multiple runs for me to beat.

It can happen if you have experience. A0 isn't difficult with experience.

If you are "used to" roguelikes, especially card ones, the game is sufficiently easy...
...yet we hear of some people who still struggle to win after tens of hours :conwayshrug:

So... yes :47_thumb_up:

I guess it's more or less normal for anyone who's a legit gamer, even just a casual one.

I couldn't quite manage it, myself, it took me until my second run, instead. With all four of the characters, I lost the first run I used them in and won the second run, I just couldn't seem to get a handle on their decks until I actually used them. I was kinda pissed about that, I was hoping to get at least one first-try win with at least one of the characters, but it didn't happen.

Congrats on pulling that off, though. It's not exactly easy to go into any roguelike totally blind and win your first ever run while right in the middle of figuring out and experimenting with the system, even when it's a particularly forgiving (when first starting out, anyway) roguelike such as this one. The difficulty will ramp up a lot in Ascension, though, so don't get complacent.

You didnt beat it the first try, thats impossible. You first beat it with all chars, then you get the actual chance at beating it. If by beating, you mean you got to heart and fell asleep, then sure, its doable, first character has very simple and straightforward mechanics.

You literally said "you didn't beat it, you have to beat it before you beat it". That's impressive. In any case, the game itself defines beating Act 3 as a win, even if you die afterward. I'm pretty sure I beat my first run as well, I would say it is unusual, but not unheard of or anything. A0 is incredibly easy compared to higher ascensions.

It's hard to say because of RNG. I could see almost anyone beating the game the first time if they were handed Entrench and Body Slam decently early, or just in general being careful and picking a good combination of cards.

Regardless, good job!

I think it's normal, The first run with the Ironclad is pretty easy, after that tho, when you have to run with the different characters... that's when things get difficult.

It look me a good 6 or 7 tries before I completed it, but once I did, I had learned different techniques that made my subsequent runs much easier. From then on, I would regularly get to the end game. This game has an interesting learning curve, one that I find appropriately difficult and fun.

I also unga through my first ironclad run. then lost a bunch on silent, its preaty normal.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but A0 Ironclad is the first thing they throw at you for a reason. It's literally the easiest run of the entire game, hands down.

No ... no you didn't ... you actually haven't even started playing the game ...

Unlock A0 to A20 and win A20 with every character
Beat the heart on A0 with every Character
Beat the heart on A20 with every Character

You have not only not beaten the game, you've not even seen 50% of the enemies, cards or relics

And as the former posters already said, A0 Ironclad is pretty much the most Easy Mode of all Easy Modes ever in existence, it's probably even more a kind of a tutorial then the game *gg*

No, it's really not. I've played much, much easier easy modes, and easier games in normal mode that also had easy modes.

Uh tell me which ones, I should have said that this statement is based on the games I've played so far and although that's quite a number, it's a miniscule part of 'all games' ^^

I also beat it on my first try, for whatever that's worth.

Crap, I can't remember the name of any of them, but there's a very few I've seen where there's combat in the game, which gets to be pretty challenging, but then there's a story mode that just completely removes all of the combat. Boring, obviously, so I generally don't play those modes, but I'd say that's substantially easier.
