Blue candle?
The blue candle is misleading. It doesn't let me play 'Burn' cards, while I totally expected it to. Did I understand the relic wrong?

Blue candle allows you to play curses for 1 HP each (note this is HP and is not affected by block but is affected by buffer).

Burn is a Status (as are Dazed, Void, Wound, Slimed, and Burn+). You would need a Medical Kit to play those.

This. Nothing misleading, you just didn't quite read your cards right.

Yeah, you need the blue candle AND the med kit, because one isn't enough. :lunar2019deadpanpig:

Makes sense. You need light to use the medical kit, and you need a medical kit in case you burn yourself with the candle. Amazing synergy.

Lol, true. But if that's the case, a complete medical kit should have a blue candle included in it, anyway. :lunar2019laughingpig: Also, if a medical kit is old enough that everyone calls it a "relic", why would anyone trust it to still be effective? Everything is probably rotted or decayed or in tatters or just well past the expiration date.

It’s the only medkit around here, don’t care if the painkillers are 8000 years old.

At that age, the painkillers might actually cause MORE pain, if they even work at all. Painkillers have a shelf life, not a half-life; they're not honey.

More pain is good. You see, if this hurts more it's still killing the other pain, therefore working :junsmirk:

You're playing a bunch of characters who endlessly attempt to slay a spire. Even after they succeed in defeating the final boss they just keep repeating the process. They even sometimes (read as "often") die and have to revive to repeat the process. I'm pretty sure they get off on pain.

Is it really killing it, or is it just adding to it in a way that takes some of your focus off of it? The initial pain is still there, after all.

No, they're making a single attempt to slay a spire, as far as they know. None of them remember any of the previous attempts unless something happens to restore their memories. So they probably just aren't aware of all the pain and suffering they go through, which is a small mercy. And in that case, I'd say it's more like they're good at tolerating pain (except for the Defect, who may not even be able to truly comprehend pain, let alone feel it, but the way a lot of relics work don't make sense when they're applied to a robot rather than a living being) than anything to do with their personal opinions on or preferences for pain.

Also, DO they actually keep repeating the process when they kill the heart and reach the top of the spire? Neow (with a name like that, why is she a cosmic whale instead of a cosmic cat? I keep expecting to catch her eating a bowl of Neow Mix that her owner just put down for her) herself seems to indicate that the whole thing is over and done with at that point, although it's done in a weirdly ominous way, with a tone that doesn't match what's being said. But they seem to be finished with the whole ordeal and free of Neow's influence or pact or whatever it is that's going on. I dunno, I'm not even close to done with the game, but I haven't seen anything yet to imply that the spire just rebuilds itself and the heart is resurrected so that it all truly is pointless.

Well you can't feel the pain anymore as the old painkillers overwhelm it with more pain, so it definitely kills it. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

Yeah, but it doesn't overwhelm it completely, it's still present and you can still feel it. Especially if it's severe enough to actually require painkillers in the first place. But on the other hand, the body is kind of dumb when it comes to physical sensation; having trouble distinguishing between pain in two different areas, pain in one area being sensed as pain in a different area, things getting mixed up when pleasure and pain are felt at the same time, and the like.:cozypoewitch: Lol, I've only ever had one of those kinds of excruciating pain at a time, never two or more, let alone one that was so much greater that it could mostly drown out the other, so I don't really know from experience, I have to go off secondhand info.:lunar2019smilingpig:

Lol, oh, and another thing to add to that: the pain or discomfort caused from expired, potentially thousands of years old painkillers (if any, which is still uncertain) wouldn't necessarily be very severe. It could just be a comparatively minor pain that just adds a little to the pain one is already in.:steamhappy:

Actually, come to think of it, isn't the medical kit a shop item? And aren't those items that the shopkeeper has scrounged up, or sometimes actually made, himself? So maybe it's just a regular med kit, and there's no reason other than it's function that make it a relic. Or maybe the thing that makes it a relic is the knowledge that was used to make it, which is perhaps knowledge that only the shopkeeper (or his suppliers) has, so that's why that's seemingly the only source for it in the world? I guess that would make sense.:lunar2019deadpanpig:

Lol, side note, is the shopkeeper's name Lee? The waffle is called Lee's Waffle, it's shop exclusive, and the description says that it's both fresh and made just for you, so if you put that all together... ...the shopkeeper is named Lee. Right? Unless there's a short order cook somewhere that we don't know about. Then again, the fruits you find are usually fresh, too, and who the hell knows how that happened? I've just assumed there's a few gardens on some of the floors that have plants which are carefully preserved in a pre-spire state. Unless there's some sort of magic spell of preserving that was placed on them. Lol, or maybe Neow has just been resurrecting them every time someone eats them.:lunar2019crylaughingpig:

You know, that is a good question. Is :sts_merchant: Lee? :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

We need to dive into this deep lore.

♥♥♥♥, that's right, he's called the merchant, not the shopkeeper.

Close enough. Still need to figure out the lore
