Unless you're selecting all of them, they don't.
What scry X (number) does is simply:
- Lets you view the X next cards on top of your draw pile. Meaning you will draw what you see here in order, unless something else gets added to the draw pile (tantrum, burn, headbutt, etc...). Order is left to right.
- Lets you select any of the X card you see and move them to the discard pile.
- Not count toward discard synergies (correct me if i'm wrong, i'm unsure.)
Anything else is either unintended and bugged, or you not paying attention enough to what is going on.
The goal of scrying is:
- Viewing cards you'll have next turn to strategize this current turn.
- Getting rid of cards you don't want to draw next turn/soon so that your hand has more of what you want/need, and less of what you don't. Obviously you'd want to discard/select a curse.
- Setting up a good turn, perhaps because you have retain cards in your hand, or because you just want good cards the next turn. It will technically allow you to draw further into the deck and extend your draw in exchange of cards you don't want, kinda like a discard/draw card.
- Cycling through your deck faster, aka, seeing all the cards in your deck as fast as possible and in as few turns as possible, because you want to get to a certain card, or replay a certain card.
- Triggering scrying related synergies, which are nirvana or weave.
- Using a card that interacts with the discard pile, like meditate.
Note that you can't scry past your draw pile, so if you have 1 card left in your draw pile, and you want to scry 2 card, you'll be able to only scry 1 card. If your ammount of cards in the draw pile is too low/empty during a given turn, then certain synergies won't work well or even not at all, like weave.
You can check out the wiki page too if you want to double check information and learn what gives scry => https://slay-the-spire.fandom.com/wiki/Scry
That should cover everything you could possibly want to know about scry.
