Custom Decks Please!!!
Deck customization could give this game a lot more depth and longevity.

My preferred mode would involve tying-up customization to the Ascension mode. Every time the player beats a level of Ascension she/he gets to modify her/his starting deck by one card with available options (e.g. retain, upgrade, remove).

This would make the game even more addictive, expanding its gaming time considerably, and it give to players a level of gratification for beating the Ascension. It would also avoid making the game too easy (you could make Ascension more punishing). And fans would go crazy with coming-up with new deck builds and strategy-paths for creating them. This is effectively an easy way to add a meta-game, while dealing with concerns that randomness plays too much role currently. Also, programming-wise, it should not be too time-consuming. You just need to add a feature for saving custom decks, so that they can be uploaded on runs.

Thank you very much for creating such a fun game.

I disagree completely. It'll just make you pick the same thing over and over again.

I agree with this idea.

Sometimes I want to try a specific strategy but, after multiple attempts, I don't get the synergy I wanted. Usually I abandon the idea and wish me luck on a random ascension.

This is a terrific idea. I hope the devs implement this. Just have a seperate mode (plus ascension mode) with customizable decks. No one should complain about it either because the seperate normal mode (same as right now) will still be there!

As long as they disable achievements. I worked hard for my Ascension wins, it wouldn't be fair if people who customized their deck with easy win cards got to gloat about their skill in doing so as well when there was barely any skill involved.

It is an optional mode for fun. If you don’t like it then ignore it. Not everything has to be hard and skill based only. Some people just like to have fun and play the game after a stressful day at work and relax.

While I love this idea, I also agree with what Flavorable wrote.
Maybe something like you get to transform a Strike or a Defend as a reward. One less basic card but you get a random card instead.

That's all fine and dandy but what Flavourable is saying is that implementing a mode like that, with achievements enabled, would make the success of beating ascension mode somewhat cheap should people be able to brag with easy win decks.

Isn't the whole game about deck customization? Sure, you start with the same cards, but pretty soon, all your decks diverge a lot. Starting with a customized deck pretty much just lets you skip the entire first half of the game. Seems like a very weird choice.

It is not a weird choice because I don't want to use a custom deck to make the game easy, I want it to be able to experiment a specific synergy I have in mind but RNG never gave me until now. It is more a test mode IMHO.

Just like yesterday. I finally reached level 11 ascension with a friend. Very cool but very hard. Just after that we talked about a searing blow strat. Just to relax.
And I made more than 10 runs to try it and only had Searing Blow early twice. It ended up badly each time and I gave up the test because I was tired of waiting this damn card on Act 1.

About the achievements, well, I really don't care since all the hard achievements I got were pure luck (like finishing Donu with a Feed card).

Yep, such tends to happen in custom modes. You find out or look up the best cards and NEVER use anything else, ever. That's simply how such works, especially in 2018.

This is the worst idea. It goes against the core of the game which is drafting and it's a sure way to spoil the playerbase, people will bore quickly if they just get everything without challenge. Whole game is balanced for draft, if you enter a draft with a premade deck it's just a stomp. Furthermore it would breed worse habits into already bad players. The kind of noobs we see on the forum now would pale in comparison to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up entitlement coming from the noobs who come from that sort of environment.

Not if it's not tied to Unlocks. If it were set up so that People can only unlock new stuff or it requires you to have unlocked everything before you can access it.

I still think it would speed up the demise of this game. People who would otherwise play the daily over a longer period of time might just get strung out on sandbox mode over a day or two. It will make future runs less special if you have already seen it all. It's kinda like those 30+ women with thousand-♥♥♥♥-stares who seem to have lost all capability to feel joyful.

Sounds like it would be fun if done right.
Maybe instead of just improving your deck, it could alter it in a way that has drawbacks.
Like "your strikes only do 4 damage but your defends block 6 damage".
That or you include questionable card choices like 0 power "Exhaust one card in your hand".
Drecon Mar 20, 2018 @ 6:00am
Maybe I misunderstood.

Is the idea to get a sort of "Sandbox Mode"? Where you get to play a deck you didn't build during gameplay, but beforehand and you basically just do random encounters for a while?

I don't think the Devs are going to be implementing that, but sounds like a great idea for a mod?
