And btw, the score screen often tells me that I got over 1000 gold during my run, so getting an Ecto from Neow at the start of the run can cost you that much.
I know that playing without gold is less fun, but playing with 3 energy is less fun either.
In the big picture, changing what happens in one fight isn't going to make a big difference in how often it gets picked or not.
I'm not asking for it to be better because I think it's not strong enough. I'm asking for it to be changed so it behaves more like the way you would expect.
It says you can't gain gold, so that means the gold you have at the time you pick it up is all that you have left to spend. Being able to get back stolen gold from thieves you kill wouldn't let you go above the amount you have left.

That said, losing 45 gold might feel significant when you have 99 but that's not going to make or break your run usually. I think it's fine for this relic to cost you that if you're not gaining gold anyway. Honestly, I tend to hit the nearest shop if I get Ecto for just this reason.
It's your gold that has been stolen by Thieves and you cannot get it back because "You Can't Gain Gold", its such a straight forward interaction that shouldnt be discused.
I think ectoplasm could change to take back gold from thief.
I don't see why you're so attached to the current behavior. It's obviously needlessly frustrating, regardless of whether or not it's logical.
Yeah, it's frustrating, but so is Hexaghost. So is Time Eater. So is getting Catalyst when you have a shiv deck. So is getting sapped to -6 Strength against Lagavulin. I don't think any of those, or losing more gold to Thieves + Ectoplasm is "needlessly" frustrating. It's just another situation that arises that costs you resources that you have to deal with when playing the game, and responding to these resource losses is what makes the gameplay as interesting as it is.

Gain 1 energy, can't gain gold.
can't gain gold.
Can't. Gain. Gold.
Taking your gold back from thieves isn't 'gaining' anything, and it makes the fight entirely frustrating and stupid when there's only a card reward (that could suck).
It'd be better if there was a small tweak on this Relic, and it shouldn't matter much to the 'better' players anyway. It's just a change on 1-2 simple fights That you rarely even see.
I lean towards an ecto change as well because of this.
If the Devs felt it was neccessary to change Sozu so you keep your current potions. Why would changing Ectoplasm so you keep your current Gold be so wrong?
Think about it, you still have the possibility the Theives make off with your Gold anyway after the X turns. For skilled Players, the chances of them being able to flee are next to none so that doesn't matter. Further, for such skilled players, losing that ~45-100 Gold isn't going to be a deciding factor anyway barring certain situations.
All this would do is give people a little more lee-way when dealing with Thieves while having Ectoplasm. Is it really that big an issue? It's not like people are asking for Sozu to let you keep potions gained from Alchemize or something.
While the Devs can make tweaks and all, I am doubtful that they'll do anything about ecto.
I agree greatly with how they should change ectoplasm just a slight bit, because right now, It's like one of those 'hidden words' things. (Basically, an effect not noted.)
Example: Exhume doesn't say that you can't exhume an exhausted exhume.
Ectoplasm + ability to gain gold from thieves? Available on Easy Mode.
Able to see Act 3 End Boss from the start? Available on Easy Mode.
Time Eater gets +2 Str after 12 cards played but doesn't end your turn? Easy Mode.
The list goes on, but you get my point.
Ectoplasm working as is encourages you to find a merchant ASAP on the second act. Adds a thrill and strategy depth to the game. Can't you enjoy that?
You are clearly missing the point.
We aren't asking to gain gold from theives. We are asking to get back the Gold that was stolen from us. That's a big difference. Especially so since the Rewards Screen has Stolen Gold listed as seperate from actual Gold. (If they weren't seperate then I might not be so adamant)
I don't agree with Xephosaurkeyus's stance that "elite players want to punishing people" but in this case it is definately starting to feel that way. Literally every "counter argument" to this suggested change has been "it'd make the game too easy!"... When it would only change one single interaction, kinda like how Sozu changed a single interaction.
