Slay the Spire
How many percent of times you beat the game?
So far I lost two times to the third boss marginally. I was wondering about your record.

depends on ascension, around ascension 10 and below I can win fairly consistently but higher the game gets harder
Ascension 0 around 90%, a10 feels like above 50%, the higher the ascension goes, the lower the win %, a15+ might be around 20%, even lower for a19 & a20 [that's for act 1-3].

Don't worry about your win chance, in the beginning you lose more often than not.
If we count 4th boss (the heart) then on defect it is 0% winrate. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. Any other hero - 90% easy
With no ascension (or A1) I am confident I can win the game every single time if I try. Well, almost every single one if we're being realistic. The only chance of losing is if I go for something really dumb and I kill myself (which honestly is the best way to spice the game up, trying to win with stupid decks against the heart for example), or if the game REALLY is out to get me which I think happened only once during all the time I have played it. I'm at the point where mistakes don't really happen, unless it's a genuine missclick, or I am tired or playing too fast. So it's really up to how hard do I want to make it and how much of an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the game wants to be.

Ascension 20, oh ♥♥♥♥ that. I don't even know since I played it only until I got 4 wins and never since. Probably single digits.

I don't play anything else. I prefer to make thing harder on myself from playing higher ascension. The former lets me do cool and entertaining things that may not work, but are fun to do, which keeps the game fun and interesting for me. Stupid thing like this, for example https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1662810624

The latter forces me to play meta and not fool around, which is a good way to make the game repetitive and boring.
Is ascension is different from act?

You need to beat the game to unlock it. It's difficulty modifiers. Each ascension makes the game more difficult: adds more elites, enemies are stronger, bosses are stronger, you don't heal fully between acts, you start with a curse, and so on. Ascension 20 is the final one and it's notorious for being extremely difficult.

It's basically a test of your skill and game knowledge, with a healthy dose of good luck required as well. If you beat A20 on every character, then you can say say with confidence that you're pretty good at the game .

I see. Should I beat the game with only one character?

No reason. You will want to do it with everybody eventually.

..or, the latter takes actual skill, the former is just a boring fooling around?

Ascension is the Difficulty Level of the game, and something most roguelikes after StS seems to have adopted as a gospel :squirtmeh:

It goes something like this:

easy
insultingly easy
incredibly easy
you did it, you special snowflake!
super easy
very easy
ok, you can stop facerolling the keyboard
you might actually have to think for a sec
what could have passed for easy 10 years ago
still easy
we say "normal" so you can feel good about yourself
probably actually normal
normal
a bit tough
old school normal
wow, you can actually do math!
normal+
challenging
hard
OMG this game has too much RNG!!11!
i could do it if i wanted, but i don`t.
dark soul
really hard
now you`re stretching it
nintendo hard

Dude... that kinda was... my point? :Aurion_Wonder:
I guess... thanks for having written it more explicitly? :conwayshrug:
Never beaten act 3 even after actively learning about effective builds I simply can't do it.

Same here. I, however, reached the third boss several times. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I use https://maybelatergames.co.uk/tools/slaythespire/tierlist/cards/ironclad/ for the card reference of Ironclad.

I read somewhere that you have to beat the game with the characters in order to obtain keys. What is the key for?

Tier lists aren't a very good learning tool. They lack context, and context is what deckbuilding is all about. Not sure if this site is purely data driven, or if the tier lists are just someone's opinion, but they're not worth much in either case.

If it's just collating the data and ranking the relics and cards by how many times someone won with them, that doesn't really distinguish between whether the card/relic contributed to the win or whether it was just there because the player couldn't remove the card/because it's free to pick up relics.

If it's just someone's opinion, then you should know that rating Feel No Pain, Burning Pact, and Limit Break as "D tier" indicates that this author doesn't know very much about the game.

Try this instead: https://slay-the-spire.fandom.com/wiki/Ironclad#Strategies
The descriptions are somewhat rigid, and advanced players eventually move beyond this sort of thing. But following some of the builds there can help you get a foothold into the game. At the very least it should give you some ideas about which cards and relics combo well together.
