The sentries are driving me bonkers
Half of the time I just straight up CANNOT have the time to kill these guys before they make my deck completely unplayable. It would be one thing if they were actually killing me or doing something I can counter reliably, but when I enter this fight, it's basically a 50/50 on whether I'm gonna abandon my run because I'll have to sit through one useless hand after the other, doing worse and worse damage until I die. I love the mechanic, but is three a bit much? Maybe there's some easy counter I'm missing

I focus one enemy every single time. I use every power at my disposal. It may be more infrequent than I think, but it's still frustrating to keep having runs arbitrarily ended by the same enemy repeatedly

The key to killing the sentries is to kill one of the outside ones (right or left) quickly. Before you cycle your deck ideally. They're only really dangerous when 2 of them are attacking at once for 18 damage. Once you have them knocked down to 2, you can generally block all 9 damage, and attack if you've got the cards.

You may just have to accept a bit of damage early to accomplish that. Worst case is you play nothing but Strikes and take 27 damage before you can knock one out. That's not great, but if you're losing to them now, taking 27 damage is better than that.

The Dazed cards aren't so bad once they're down to 2, either. You're getting 2 of those cards a turn, so once you shuffle your deck, you can generally expect to draw 3 usable cards and 2 Dazes, which then exhaust. Since you only have 3 energy, 3 cards is enough.

I think they're by far the easiest act 1 elite, once the one in the front or back dies they kind of become a joke, as long as only one can attack you at a time they're pretty easy to defend against

as compared to Nob who can be a challenge to kill without taking a lot of damage and Lagavullin who does the same damage as 2 sentries attacking you every turn and can debuff your block so it gets harder to defend

1) Get good offensive cards before fighting your first elite.
2) Consider extra attacks instead of blocking all damage.

Not as Watcher.

While it's usually one of the easier elites for other characters, the devs managed to bring us a character that actually can struggle vs sentries!

Is there a specific character you're struggling with when it comes to sentries?

I still don't find them that hard as watcher, granted i'm still on lowish ascension but I don't remember them being any harder as her than any of the other characters

in general I find watcher just kind of stomps act 1 compared to the other characters in my experience

Rember that a lil potion goes a long way, and unlike the other 2 elites, the length of the fight lets you squeeze actual value out of +2 str/dex, +4 plated armor, mini demon form, upgrading your hand, the new metallicize cocktail, and the new +2 orb slots.

The watcher, lol. totally forgot to mention. I don't have too much of a problem with other characters

Watcher has Bowling Bash. If you don't get it, most of the uncommon damage cards will do, especially if upgraded.
Try killing one of them asap, even if you can't fully defend.
Going into wrath to kill one early might save you, even if you take 18(20) damage for a turn.
Sinsling Feb 4, 2020 @ 5:10pm
If you have to eat a turn of 1 sentry faceslapping you for double damage in wrath to off one early, do it. Better than sitting in the fight taking chip damage that slowly gets higher than what you would of from just wrath smashing one right at the start.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ love how all of the answers are "just beat them lol."

You guys are idiots.

Well spotted, Eagle Eye. Of course, that is the correct answer, so this is sort of like wandering into a "what's 2 + 2?" thread and saying "I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ love how all of the answers are '4'."
People gave a lot more specific advice than that, you might need to work on your reading comprehension if you somehow missed all of it.
sandman25dcsss Feb 6, 2020 @ 10:28pm
Funny indeed. You die because you deal too low damage and then we are idiots for suggesting to deal more damage.
Here is another hint then: you are not obligated to attack elites. If you can die to one specific elite (typical in act 1 if you still miss high damage cards), avoid all elites.
And one more hint: try to hit some campfires before elite to upgrade a card or two. It will help you more than healing 20 HP.
