kinda like ascension but it's an adventure like the "dungeon" mode in hearthstone where you add cards into your deck as the run goes on.

The Big Book of Madness or a much lighter Mage Knight

It's a deckbuilding game (the first of which was Dominion), but in which you carry over your deck between "games".

To be fair, Starcraft the boardgame had that mechanic 1 year before Dominion.
"Who invented Deckbuilding" is a kinda hot topic in the boardgames circles:overkill_laugh:

Either way, I'd ysnder is correct; I'd call this a mixture of Ascension and Hearthstone. Dominion is best left as some kind of proto-influence.

Not talking about a mechanism, talking about a category of cardgame. Slay the Spire is NOT like Hearthstone, Magic, Yugio, Gwent, etc. If you say "deckbuilding", then people into boardgames generally know what you are talking about, but for those that don't, an example like Dominion (or Ascension) might be helpful. "Like Starcraft (the boardgame)" would be both inaccurate and unhelpful.

That said, for someone who has no idea what deckbuilding games are, but has played Hearthstone, "the dungeon mode in Hearthstone" is a much better reference, for sure. The idea of lots of mini-games as your deck evolves is important.

Ye, except sts doesn't use a crappy bucket system where you must take 3 cards at once and doesn't compensate for even crappier ai through "highrolly" mechanics.

Sorry, mini rant because another one of these is coming out for Rastakhan.
Maybe third time's the charm. :T

It's a good game, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll like it. Artifact is a good game too, and apparently you don't like it. Slay the Spire has more luck and a lower skill-ceiling than Artifact, but it has more cards and more viable deck archetypes.

Depending on what you want, buy accordingly.

I highly recommend you go check out a streamer called Joinrbs, (yes he is aware this is a bad name) arguably the best STS player out there and is generally very insightful. Has multiple guides and ♥♥♥♥ on his youtube channel
