Is there any lore or story in-game?
I've been playing few hours here and there while it was still in EA and have been wondering if there are any lore tidbits I can discover or even hidden story in a full game.

Nothing wrong if it's not a case. Just that there appears to be some common theme to a characters/enemies/locations. And gameplay is not presented like series of random matches a-la other popular card games but like a journey through locations to.. somewhere. I would love to know more about who are the characters and why and what are they doing. Like a sentence or two in some events or relic/card description.

For me the artstyle and music are a little bland (personal opinion here, just a little "meh'' not ugly) so I'm looking for another ways to inject some atmosphere which is generally big factor for me in any medium. Gameplay is superb by the way

tl;dr
Is this "just" REALLY enjoyable timewaster (again, nothing wrong with that, quite opposite actually) or is there something "moody" or "atmospheric" hidden within for a person who doesn't necessarily enjoy this artstyle/music.

There is a bit of background story, especially if you pay attention to certain events, and manage to beat Act 4.

Like with most roguelikes, there are bits of story hidden here and there, if you read and digest all the information given by events and relic descriptions, you get a fair picture of the shape of things.

Some interpretation is needed, and it isn't a very detailed story, but it is there.
If you are looking for a clear and detailed narative, i fear this isn't really the game for it.

Ah, "bits of story hidden here and there" is really all I'm looking for in this genre.

It's just the gameplay and art are presented in a way that alludes to some background story. And to me it feels like something is missing if there is next to none which was a case during my few runs in early access .

Thanks for clarification!

You have to dig a bit, but it is there :)
