Slay the Spire
At what point did you stop finding Ascension fun?
And I'm not saying "Not an appropriate challenge" or w/e, I've just noticed that since I hit Ascension 8... I just don't feel like playing the game as much. Playing with no Ascension is good for goofing around sometimes, but I've generally liked the bonus challenge ascension added (though Ascension 1 just throwing more elites at you may be my eternal favorite for "goofy" builds, way better than vanilla for those shenanigans) so playing with it off just isn't the same experience anymore, but playing with it on has just gotten frustrating, win or lose.

I'm stuck in this catch-22 where I don't want to play with Ascension off, but I don't enjoy playing as much as I used to with it on. I'll admit I don't want to push for purely optimal decks every game, and until now, I frequently could. So I guess part of it is the difficulty, but not "It's too hard for me to beat!" but more "It's too hard to stray from more specific deck archetypes," which is fine, just... Not as enjoyable /broken record.

Anyone else hit that point or is it just me?

I watched people ascend on twitch and it looked interesting. I haven't tried it because they haven't implemented a reward other than points, which I don't play for.

If they add some sort of reward I would probably find it more fun. It doesn't even have a unique text or prompt when you finish the 10th one.

I think the game is challenging enough as is.
I feel like it's not so much ascension mode as just being tired of the game. Once you've unlocked everything and spent a few dozen hours doing runs, you've seen it all. Ascension gives you a harder start but doesn't add anything in the long run.
I was in the camp of people saying the game was too easy and either needed an increase to the base difficulty of the game or a harder difficulty added. That being said I think it's important, especially without the ability to choose your Ascension level, to remember that you don't always have to play every game hyper competitively.

When I first grabbed this game I was doing everything in my power to knock out all the Achievements ASAP and get my winrate as high as I possibly could, but that was only fun for so long. After I'd knocked out all the Achievements and played basically every deck archetype you can atm in 2-3 flavours each while tryharding I decided to let it go. This happened to me at about 60 hours in, before Ascension had been added.

Now when I boot up the game, I'll just play normal runs most of the time even though I haven't finished Ascension. I know I could... but why do it if it's just going to frustrate me? I give it a shot every third or fourth time I boot up the game to play so I'll get it done eventually anyway and I'm in no hurry. On top of that I will say with the buffs being done to creatures, elites and bosses in the base game paired with the addition of Ascension mode that the balance certainly isn't perfect in Ascension right now.

So to answer your question, I still find Ascension fun, so long as I only play it when I'm prepared to sometimes get my head cracked open and willing to accept that certain deck archetypes are a no go and bad RNG can definitely cause havoc on a run in far worse ways than the base game.

I enjoyed Ascension until I beat Ascension 10 on both characters. After Ascension 6, 7-10 felt super easy. I stopped enjoying Ascension when I found builds that I can consistently get every run and win most of the time without too much effort.
I'm really hoping that they'll add a lot of progression in the game as they progress to a full release. Some costumes would be fun, or companions as item types/drops that act like the minions some bosses may spawn.

I'd also really like some sort of permanent progression of characters that's not just points. Maybe a tiny percentage increase in damage, health, or what have you.
I don't even know what Ascencion is yet. I've read I'd have to beat all final bosses but I guess I had very bad luck and always fought the same ones? I have no clue which one I didn't beat yet, pretty sure I did...
Up to Ascension 5 so far and it's only making the game better. Not forcing me into any particular builds at all, my decks look all different. Ascension 8 could be way harder, but I doubt it. I don't believe the game ever forces you into particular specific builds. Way too many combinations that work fine.
I want it to go higher, because playing for high score/leaderboards (especially when you're incentivized to play at blitz speed, with there being bonuses for 45m and 1hr clears) isn't my thing.

Silent to 10 is enjoyable, and I've cleared 10 once before moving on to Ironclad.
Ironclad feels like a slog at 7, but then I don't enjoy that class nearly as much.
WTF is ascension?

The game doesn't force you to start up your computer either, what's your point? Sure, you can completely ignore the game giving you things like Tinsgha, but why would you?

And there are plenty that you can force to work in the base difficulty that don't in Ascension. Why take the coin toss trying to build a Clash deck when the enemies deal more damage, you don't fully heal after the stage boss and you start with a curse?

NG+

I have beaten it with both characters, is there a special options or is that juat what people call starting over?

I've just realised that I actually unlocked that option. It is very hard to spot unless you take your time scanning the whole character selection screen. Once you have access to it, it will appear as a small check box under the character selection...

Basically you get to start over at Ascencion 2 when you win over the spire and the enemies get stronger. NG+ mean "New Game Plus".

I wouldn't "take the coin toss trying to build a Clash deck", just sometimes you get multiple Clashes and so that's the way my deck ends up. Other times I end up with something else. Lots of different ways all work, I can win very consistently at high Ascension levels with just taking whatever I get and building a deck around it. You don't have to limit yourself to some master plan, it's not even helpful to do that.
