Slay the Spire
The Collector Comes To Stay?
So I've done quite a few runs now and i'm really loving the game. What I'm not loving, however, is having to fight the collector on the second stretch 90% of the time. I kind of thought the bosses would stray somewhat evenly on appearances but lo and behold I'm trying to get all the unlocks on Silent and ever since I beat the spire with her once the collector has been the second floor boss for quite some time! I still haven't beaten the champion, who I only saw once and who was slated one other time but I died to an elite encounter before I could get to him.

Is there something i'm missing? Are the boss encounters skewed depending on how you build your deck, what relics you have, or who your character is? It's nice knowing what a fight is like but i'm not a fan of having to fight through minions repeatedly. Similarly I've also only seen the Awakened One once and they're the only 3rd stretch boss I haven't beaten yet.

I am really dying to know what the "optimal" strategy is for the collector. he really wrecks me. if I ignore the 2 adds their str gets buffed, the boss never takes a break to resummon and I die. if I pick off the adds, I tend to die the turn they get resummoned and all 3 attack at once. I'm on ascension 11 right now, and this fight is by far the one I have the most trouble with.

It's RNG, the entire map layout is decided once you start a game, so it has nothing to do with your deck, it's just random. And sadly for you in this case, random means you get Collector a lot.

Kill one minion a turn to force him to resummon each turn. Focus any other damage you can muster onto the boss. The little guys don't hit hard when unbuffed, and if your cards are good enough for floor 3 you will kill him before he kills you.

I like to kill one minon, bring HP of second one very low (but not killing him), wait for Collector to summon again (he wastes half of his summon - only one minon is created, not two) and then kill the old minion. This way neither one of minions will stack too much strength. Whenever possible apply as much damage to Collector as you can - especially when he is about to summon.

Actually he doesn't always summon after one of the minions is killed, even if you manage it immediately. Though I will admit on one ironclad run I did half his health on turn one and just spent the next two turns whailing on him instead of the minions, but that's specific circumstance.

Still, even if it's RNG there are specific enemies that feel skewed to appear more often. Maybe it's just because it's only a choice out of 3 bosses for each stretch of the tower that does it but it doesn't exactly help the game when it gets stuck on giving 1 or 2 particular bosses with high frequency.

I know what you mean, my luck has been terrible lately.

For a while, I was like "Ok, Slime Boss, Guardian... what was the other one?" Because I hadn't fought Hexaghost for a while. Then the game decided to literally give me nothing but Hexaghost for an entire day.
What's weird is that Hexaghost's attack stat doesn't seem consistant. His Inferno on the 2nd turn can be anywhere from 5x6 to 8x6 DMG. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or if there is some sort of hidden scaling mechanic.

Not to mention, I once managed to get the Blood Vial and Magic Flower super early, and despite going to seven mystery locations in the City, I didn't get the Vampire event.

I definitely notice streaks of the same bosses. I've gotten Champ the last 4 runs.
