Are calipers intentionally bad?

They seem better for The Silent with a footwork + backflip build supporting it, which lets you pretend you have a barricade deck.
From what I've seen they are difficult to use for most runs, however if you get lucky and can build a solid armour deck it is basicaly a pretend barricade as Basalisk mentioned.
Other cards such as Corruption can be a huge boost to an armour deck, being able to stack armour over 100 then Double tap Body slam for a couple of hundred damage :P

Still not generaly very useful.

It's bad but I still manage to get 999 block with silent against awakening one.

Calipers are a bit niche, but I've had 2 or 3 runs where it was very helpful.

I've been lucky in that most times I've gotten it were fairly early, so I could build around it a little bit and it worked quite well when I made picks with it in mind.

I think one time I went with a classic Dark Embrace+Power Through+Second Wind to make a lot of armour.

Another time I had a cycling Silent deck with a lot of Escape Plans/Finesse, so I'd get a lot of incidental block while cylcing through my deck, and then get to keep most of it.

There are definitely bad Relics and Caliphers aren't one of them. Situational? Absolutely, but not bad.

Any block focused Silent deck that doesn't have multiple copies of Blur and any Ironclad deck that either doesn't have Barricade and/or can't set it up early because they don't have enough energy manipulation loves them.

I think they'd be a lot better if the amount of block they took off was only 10 instead of 15. Its not often without heavy stakcing of block or with it that you can over 100% block incoming damage especially with un-upgraded cards.

They would be a lot better, but not every Relic is supposed to benefit every deck. Kunai and Shuriken are great Relics and yet are either 100% useless or almost impossible (not worth it even if you can) procing in other decks.

As a rare I think they are bit underpowered. Reducing the hit to 10 would make them functional in a lot more decks without really helping the decks that hyper abuse them.

I'm in the 10 loss versus 15 crowd as well. Only had them once and you really do feel that 5 points against most attacks.

I like building defense in many of my decks. If i happen to draw a big defensive hand during their defensive phase, calipers can be useful for the next turn, when I need the block

I for one love Calipers have had it two times on silence now each time I build my deck araound it! The last game now I had some poision stuff mainley 2 Noxious Fumes and 2 fottwork (had one of each when I got calipers) Also took everything that gave me armor. when i won against the last boss I ended the fight on 400 armor, yhe losing 15 "hurts" but losing 400 beacuse you did not draw blur is a lot arder. It gives you the knolage taht you can stack as much armor as you want knowing that you wont lose everyting beacuse of a bad draw. It also makes it so an draw of no block wont kill you beacuse you have some from last round. So when the two Fumes where activated all I needed to do was build block and wait for the poision to kill the boss.

15 basically means that if you draw a hand of all +Block cards it isn't completely wasted. In decks dedicated to serious blocking via things like Barricade or Blur, it serves as a nice supplement for bad draws where you don't get (or can't afford to use) Barricade or miss out on Blur chains. However unless you are getting solid Dexterity boosts to upgraded +Block cards you won't get much use out of it on its own.

I mean I just played a winning deck which would've gotten a ton of use out of Calipers, which didn't have Blur, but it had After-Image and Wraith Form, meaning you could just spam large +Block cards willy-nill while Wraith dishes out damage to my opponent. I was routinely getting 20-40 block per turn, which in conjunction with Calipers meant it could've started stacking up for a rainy day where I didn't draw +Blocks.

There are way worse relics. Yes its somewhat niche, but so are many relics that are very strong in the right deck.

It certainly does not need to be buffed for example.

Underrated Relic for the Silent. Downright useless in the early game but late game lets you stack Block with ease once you get the block cards going. Especially against bosses and elites which often take turns off from attacking.

I agree, sir!
