I usually fight spikers passively; only attacking when I block both their attacks and their spikes. If I have a passive means of dealing damage (poison, powers/relics that deal damage when a condition is met, or spike damage of my own via relic or caltrops), then I kill them that way. Spikes only hurt you if you attack directly with an attack card (this includes attacks that hit all enemies and discarding underhanded strike). If you deal damage with a skill card like bouncing flask, then there is no retribution from spikes.
As does what people already posted.
A3 monsters requires some tactics to beat imo.
Just be careful with poison, if you set up all enemies to die on the same turn with poison, and an exploder dies and isn't the last one, you will take the explosion.
AoE attacks do work tho, if you get two exploders weak, then cleave to kill them both, and it ends the battle, you will take no damage.
You have fast mode on?
Fatal blow(not fatal card) on fast mode wont trigger effect. If one part of a whirlwind only kills 1 or 2 and not all of them, you still get exploded and/or thorns in your face.
