Struggling on frozen highlands
Hey, so I'm doing 100% on frozen highlands to unlock the next level and I'm struggling slightly.
My main concern is the lack of food I am able to generate with not much water supply or grass land for farms. I have hunting lodges scattered around but it's just not enough. Even with the wonder for extra food I am struggling to expand due to lack of food so I can't get more workers.
Any advice for a strategy on this map?
Do I keep a small base and get defences and army or try expand but wear myself thin...

Thanks in advance.

this sounds like a problem with a particular map, not in general. if its a particular map, just do you best, squeeze as much food out as you can and see how far you can get on the map

in general frozen highlands can be somewhat short of food, but this changes from map to map.

after you scout out the edges of the horde at the start of the map you should answer 3 things.

1st how are you going to place a wood mill and also a stone quarry, so you can get the minerals you need for a barracks

2nd where are you going to get food for your housing if you don't have alot of good food options then you will want to plan out where should your first tesla towers go so that you can maximize the available food sources you can bring into your reach.

3rd where do you plan on putting your first housing district, you don't have to worry about this as much at first because its not a big deal if you have to put a few patchs of houses here and there if your starting area doesn't have alot of open space for housing.

If you are struggling with food get a crystal palace.

Wonders are pretty much a case of "win more". Atlas Transmutor solves your oil demand for good, but requires 400 oil to research and build...

i had that problem too, then what I did is I loaded map after map until I found a couple that had grassy areas for farms. I then played out those maps. I found that with the increase energy requirements I needed more houses for more windmills etc, so I then started building the Inn and it helped solve a lot of issues. MY recommendation is look for maps with grassy areas in the beginning, build a few farms, then get he inn, then expand a lot. (I of course got the catapults to lower my soldier requirement early and I put off the soldier center for awhile). grassy areas, stone and lead, and trees.

Frozen Highlands is my favorite map. I even scored my first brutal 80 days playthrough there.
Just restart it a few times to get some green grass and not 8-ways to attack your base.

I beat it the game after I posted this.

Odds are you will either hate it and never touch it again or hate it and never play anything else again. Its a masochistic map, but arguably the most combat-focused map where you can't just mindlessly clear the map. None of the other maps will likely be of much interest once you get use to it due to how much easier they are. I often lose track of time starting day 20 because I'm spending so much attention clearing the map without starting a train.

Oh, silent beholder is quite fun to get since you can see just how many special zombies have infested the map. Harpies for days.

You must try brutal 80 days on desolate wasteland, I just finally beat it yesterday after like 50 tries. I never really got so far into the later days so I screw up a little at the end and end up with bad score. I can't manage to build any wonder until the final wave hit.

I'm already addicted to this...

Shocking tower, Lucifer, and Iron Wire trap work better than I'd expected them to.

Hey dude.
Map 3 take me a lot of time, but i did it when i start to use max Snips/Thanathos with shock towers at good places.
After that i oneshot Map 4.

Just try to no make too much advanced building, because they cost a lot. So you have to expand.

I'm personally more a fan of making things harder through self imposed restrictions like not clearing the map or not using certain units or towers. Reducing the timer always feels like it funnels me into most-optimal-strategies since you need to play super efficiently.

Complete opposite for me funny enough. I took forever to beat map 1, a few tries for map 2, oneshotted map 3, and forever to beat map 4.
