Actually Leopard is way better in the beggining.Smilodon starts to shine after you get 5 lvl spell toi enchant pets.

I like leopard more due to staying small/normal (so its not getting in everyones way like all those pets that get upgraded to large). Also, the auto-trip ability is very nice. That said, pure damage output the Smilodon wins.

I like the mastodon purely because the imagery of a woolly mammoth launching a kobold across the map with it's tusks is beautiful.

Yeah I tried the mastadon before it was pretty neat haven't tried the leopard yet though i'll try it later on. But for some reason the fast attacks from the Smilodon out damage the pig pet on my other playthrough not sure why I even chose the pig doesn't really do much

Smilodon is a Saber Tooth Tiger. It's one of the most metal pets in the game, second only to the Mastadon.

I just started a playthrough with the leopard and wtf, like first hit all the time makes them stumble to the floor if they can be tripped lol

I've had a bear that tanked pretty well for me as a Fey Sorcerer. How do the differant animal companions stack up against one another? The bear seemed pretty solidly tough for something that was always running head long into the enemies.

At first I tried Mastadon on my first playthrough, then 2nd I have pig and 3rd Smilodon now leopard on my current one atm so far haven't gotten to act 3 yet on each though except my first one I beat the game but deleted character file since I messed up the game badly not getting good endings.

So far I think the leopard is the best pet in the beginning, Mastadon becomes better later on by flinging small creatures across the map, not sure about the rest of the pets, oh I tried centipede as well for a level 5 but deleted that playthrough as well so didn't get very far on that one.

But all in all I think I heard leopard / smilodon might be the best dps pets

I use the Mastodon on my Unfair playthrough (Fey Sorcerer). It has pretty great natural armor growth rates and you can easily get to 41 AC on it right around when Troll Trouble starts (level 6 mastodon IIRC). It makes a lot of the fights more bearable... though it'll still get one or two shot when a natural 20 gets randomly rolled by an enemy (which is rather frequently -- I'm starting to think even the rolls are weighted in Unfair).

Smilodon is quite powerful, but Leopard is the real protagonist of this game.
All Hail Baroness Leopard.

That said, Smilodon is a great shapeshift for vivisectionist or rogue.

I prefere dog because of its trip feat which make it more usefull.

From what I've heard, the BOAR is the tankiest of the pets available.

Giant Centipede and Monitor Lizard both get a poison bite attack. But in my personal experience, it's not as useful as it sounds, because the enemies keep making fortitude saves.
Lightning Mar 9, 2019 @ 5:11am
Really wish the Centipede would get that Aoe stat debuff skill like that humungous one in the tunnel later on, but yeah i noticed the enemies making way to many saves against stat debuffs to even use the pede or the monitor
