Although 3 annihilators sound painful.
You barely have time also wave 2 & 3 are like 2-3 turns close to each others so basically you have 8 mechs on your ass to manage and they are fresh
Generally you want to stay away from the 3rd party lance (that 3rd party lance doesn't get to use the other enemy's units to spot you) so if you are killing them at a distance with the 3rd party on the other side of your targets they tend to ignore you for the most part. If you are fighting at short range then yes since they are enemies to both you and the target you will get shot at based on the AI targeting priorities.
The defending mechs from your target will fall back to towards the base more or less when the 1st attacking reinforcement lance lands. Also you don't get much time between the later waves because you are supposed to be angling towards killing the enemy base. If you have sufficient firepower you can whittle down that 1st lance in 2 turns so you aren't facing 8. Generally speaking the 1st reinforcement lance tends to be near the 3rd party lance so I let them shoot it out and concentrate on ones that move towards my base. Keeps my armor and my ammo fresh.
Alternatively you can move 2 or 3 units of your towards the base if the 3rd party lance is still alive when the reinforcement lands. If you are bringing just barely enough to win if with the right movement and positioning then you better be planning to kill those buildings and stop the other lances from arriving.
so i don't understand why we still send so many mech warriors to the death trap contract?
yes, the reason i can give you is dev. want you suffer. they try to teach you it's not every contract you can made it success, when you see the contract obviously is leading you into dead ending, you should just retreat.
yeah i know the feeling, it's suck.
sometimes a game that is too realistic will not a good game.
or maybe when you see any contract that lack of information, beware these surprises, they always are not good things.
