The Jamrock Shuffle [MILD SPOILERS]
LOOOONG read, TL;DR at bottom.

I'm scratching my head over "the Jamrock Shuffle" after a long pause from my 1st playthrough, what I discovered so far with a 3-3-3-3 build:

- The first available mention of it is in a conversation with Kim, after saying "You seem to be following me." and be cool with it he will mention the JS and something about prioritizing containers.

- After that, interacting with the trash container near Cuno will prompt a dialogue saying "let's prioritize It!", It could be linked to the thought.

- during the end of day 1 debriefing and with the dialogue at first point said, Kim will tell that we run around a lot, and one of the answers will be "It's part of the Jamrock Shuffle".

- With enough Shivers and rainy weather, a dialogue can pop up in the square in front of the Whirling, and with an Esprit de Corps of at least 4 during the description of Jamrock, a passive dialogue triggers a scene of precint 41st men talking about the protagonist, could be linked.

- After all those, I tried my luck bashing the trash container open with the crowbar, both failing and succeding, then entered the apartament and broke into the "communard student" apartament, failing 2 times and then succeding.

- None of these things unlocked the thought, things that I still need to try are: breaking into Cuno's dad apartament, bashing the library basement door open, trying the Physical Instrument check with the Ice cream fridge and breaking into the church without the keys.

- It could even be a matter of hidden passive checks, the best candidates for those are High Physical Instrument, Esprit de Corps, Interfacing and maybe Shivers.

That's all I can share about JS so far...
It is the last "hard to find" thought, all the others have been cracked open so far, and I could give information about other thoughts in exchange, I'm pretty good at hunting them, let's find It!

TL;DR never unlocked "the Jamrock Shuffle" thought, I share information and dialogues linked to it in a collective attempt to finally make it, and share other informations about Thoughts if asked for It ^^.

Well, you can always ask the guide author.

I just unlocked it and took a couple of screenshots:

My savoir faire was at 4.
I wasn't following the guide so i'm not sure how i did it, but as you can see it randomly unlocked when i entered the kitchen in the hostel and the description talks about opening doors and containers, so just open everything and look in every container? idk.

Not sure what you mean about needing to unlock the apartment door asap, they're all pretty easy checks. I did have to brute force the cargo container though.

I said that because yeah, two doors have keys (Gary and Blue door) one opens with simple dialogue (#10) and two with easyish interfacing checks (communard and Cuono's), but Cuno's dad house Is interactable only after punching him (phisical Instrument) and and heroic 15 empathy check, so good Psy and Phys help here. The task could be unlocked even through failing the punch and giving Cuno cigarettes, but I feel that a "Master Investigator" wouldn't do that _:-).

After fiddling with stats for a while I decided to screw everything and went with the advice of this guide:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1900879451

So now my build is a 20-20-20-20, I know It sucks _:-) but if any difficult passive check is involved, this will supposedly let me find out.

The bit about FALN shoes reminded me that a particular pair of shoes is hidden behind apt.#10 door, and those trigger a Savoir faire bubble (black leather monkstraps), so I tried to do the end day conversation with Kim with those on hoping for strange passive checks, but nope, nothing special here.

I still have to try and mess around the Blue door, Idiot Doom Spiral and the church, if nothing works there maybe:

- The problem might be the same of Torque Dork, avoiding certain passive checks. JS thought is supposed to give a -1 Esprit de Corps during research, and an Esprit de Corps passive check (medium 10 if remember) occur at the end of the first dialogue about JS with Kim, maybe that check should be avoided.

- It might be a problem of doing things in the correct order, we bust the "apt.master_investigator_doors" before the end of day 1 debrief, or after?

- Maybe we're supposed to bust those doors without Kim on our side? -1 Esprit de Corps might suggest a similar approach.

- Or the most dreadful, maybe (as I've read on other sources) the thought is bugged and a proper bug report could shed some light on the matter?

The title of Master Investigator will be awarded to the brave and stubborn soul that will crack this case!

You only need to pass an empathy check to get into Cuno's Dad's apartment. Shooting the Body down and Talking to Cunoesse also make this check easier. You can also blast some of Roy's Pyrowhatsitcalled before the roll. Also the Ledger of Failure and hatred gives you +1 empathy.
Opening the doors without Kim is a good idea. But the opposite might also be true, You may need a reason to enter these places first.
Good luck with the all 20 build but it wouldn't surprise me if it was like Torque Dork and required a check to fail somewhere.
Back again, still empty handed -_-

With extensive use of "THE GREATEST INNOSSENCE" time wasting routine, I've been able to try multiple approaches with 20-20-20-20 stats.

I fiddled around the incriminated doors, the church, Idiot Doom Spiral, and everithing that could be connected to precint 41st (calling station, talking with the "wig and shades man" and "horse faced woman", inspected the "hooligan" trashed car, studied my badge etc.) in different order, always with Kim by my side.
The next step would be try everithing again withOUT Kim, but I'm feeling a little discouraged, feel like I'm deploing the wrong approach.

What I'm sure of now is that (with cheated stats) high difficulty passive checks aren't the problem, so [Logic: Easy 8] would argue that low stats are a better bet, now what? Trying everithing out again with 1-1-1-1? Seem a lot more difficult to "speedrun", but I'll try _:-)

But Conceptualization chimes in and wildly starts to theorize about weird prerequisites, like never pressing TAB, or never running. I haven't heard of anybody able to unlock this thought, maybe it's because of this very shady particulars gating us out?

Oh and for the sake of leaving nothing untried, I submitted a bug report too, a kind word of help from the developers would really be appreciated.

My will is adamant, cracked, but not broken yet, we Will find out ^^

Finally smth I can help with. It's pretty easy to get: you need your save files (C:\Users\user\AppData\LocalLow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\SaveGames) open .rar, find file named like .1st.ntwtf.json. Open it with .txt and find the line "areaId": . This is where magic happens: you need to change the line where your person stand in save file on another one (i.e. Martinaise-ext , Secretary-int, Union-boss-int, FV-house-int or Instigators-lair-int) and when you load your game - for a few moments you will be in a pale.

Unfortunatelly, I'm still empty with The Jamrock Shuffle and I start to think of an error in code. Maybe someone could provide full code of this achievement?

So you really have to break the game to get that achivement?

After few more unfruitful attempts I took a pause but I'm not throwing the towel, I'll update here whenever I'll have news, thanks for the effort 'til now.

I've sent a bug report few days ago but no news came from that direction, I agree with you, the more I try the more I'm convinced that something wrong in the code might be the answer.

In the Thought Cabinet Guide by Xander77, on comments page3, the author said he recieved this input, along with many more concerning other thoughts, from the developers:

"Jamrock shuffle thought - should be gained after you have broken into 3 - 4 places.

""should be"". Mmmmmmh.

Anyway, I will revive this thread whenever something new will emerge, thanks for the effort.

Back online, Just a recap.

The investigation branched into Reddit and the DiscoRd, just to make other people aware of this attempt and see if they've something new to add.

As for what I found, on Reddit a guy told that he thinks he had unlocked it but I didn't recieved any answer when I asked for details.

On the DiscoRd I found 2 interesting things:

- User Xander77 (the author of the thought cabinet guide here on Steam) was already Investigating for his guide back in November 2019, when even "Torque Dork" and "Hardcore Aestethic" were still unsolced mysteries.
At the time he submitted a bug report and the developers (or someone working with them) answered later that ALL thoughts could be unlocked by testers, so the bug route is barred.

- second thing, totally unrelated but interesting, I found a screenshot of the dialogue unlocking "Hardcore Aestethic", one of the 3 "tough ones" to unlock, and found out that all the correct requirements could be:

1 syncing the sines with Noid
2 have at least 10 Conceptualization
3 having failed the Suggestion Red check with Klaasje back on day1 (I want to have f##k with you)

But nothing more for "Jamrock Shuffle"...

What now?

Seeing how a speedrunning approach failed to unlock It and that every guide on the internet states that It can be unlocked only from day 3 onward, I finally started a "catch'em all thought run", where I'll navigate as mauch of the game's content as I can in a particular order and try to unlock as many thought as possible before interacting with most of the characters, leaving behind the checks that should activate JS for last/whenever I think might be the right time.

I wish to thank Xander77 for the lot of work done back then, and welcome anyone who wants to join the search.

I've done many a "Get all of the content/thoughts" run before. It could be something like the Boiadeiro thought where you need to back out of a coversation at a specific moment to trigger it.
I do believe that the latest update fixed it. I just got Jamrock Shuffle by opening Cuno's apartment. I previously opened the commie's flat and the blue door in the kitchen.

Didn't do anything else in particular? Do you recall any specific dialogue lines that led you to unlock the thought?

I got sidetracked onto other things (shame on me ^^) and put this aside for a while, but your answer gave me new hope, I'll try and do as you did, then report here if it works.

Thanks a lot, master detective!

I talked to Kim about the Jamrock Shuffle at the start of the game, when he first brings it up. Then I also recall replying to a question of his later along the line with "It's all part of the Jamrock Shuffle!", but I can't exactly recall what his question was. I opened the church door with the key, but I took the sticker from it beforehand, if that makes a difference. I opened the container in the yard, the blue door, the commie's flat and finally Cuno's apartment. I failed the first unlock attempt on Cuno's apartment, again, if that makes a difference. Right after that Savoir Faire talked to me and gave me the option to think about the Jamrock Shuffle.

Oh, and I also had the prybar through the entire game and opened as many containers as possible. Hope this helps.

Whoa, Maybe you need to FAIL opening doors to get it?
It works if you open any of 3 of: Cuno's apartment, Apartment 10, Communard Student's Apartment, Garry's Apartment (for Evrart). I will have to check and see if other doors also work.

Like a lot of thoughts that are introduced by a specific skill, I imagine you need at least 4 in Savoir Faire to get the thought.
This must have been patched at some stage. I have opened all the doors listed in that guide on almost every play and never had the thought appear.
