Also, MacBooks are not known for their efficient cooling, Apple have a habit of throttling their hardware to keep temperatures down rather than providing better active cooling, so ironically the more demanding a game is, the slower your system might perform.
message just got deleted because my dumbass decided to reload steam oh well
Those saying mac is unplayable, f* yourself straight away, I will be protecting the sacred mac gang till the end of times.
I have played Baro for 2 years with 3k+ playtime, on the current mac I am typing this from, which is mid-2014 macbook pro
Question related troubleshooting:
first, open mac settings - go to battery - switch off automatic graphics switching
second, open baro local files, find config_player.xml, open that with text editor -> find a line about resolution and graphics, set it to 1280x800 instead of the default one, can change later if works better for you. For borderlesswindowed, delete that, type Fullscreen instead
thirdly, dont join overcrowded servers, too demanding or large vessels, or super modded servs, because again, optimisation
fourthly, just a personal remark, disable everything but finder via cmd+opt+esc, you don't want anything working in the background
Hope this helps. If not, let me know.
edit: grammar
try throwing all stuff out the airlock. leaving only the bare necessity, save and load after that:
-small cache of spare ammo
-small cache of medicals, all poison/antidote must go.
-only keep minerals in 1 storage, empty the rest
-only keep equipments needed for missions, dump the rest.
-everything must go other than above.
i did this and game went from 15fps to silky smooth. u can backup your save first incase if this dont work.
Last week everything was still fine, but this evening our game was a mess. Everybody started lagging at what seemed random times, I personally started lagging like crazy and alternating between being alive and dead everytime my PUC injected me with fentamine, I had to stop using it since it made everybody lag since I'm the host. Later we got attacked by a bunch of Spinelings, three of us got knocked unconscious and only one could be rescued since the 2 others were lagging so bad they had trouble interacting with the bodies.
Will this be fixed soon? And is there a way to roll back to a previous patch? I can't find any way to do it with Steam.
I had to Alt-F4 multiples times this evening to avoid the unfair deaths and it killed the fun. We usually take the deaths with stride but when you're unable to do anything to save the others because you lag and stutters, it doesn't seem fair. I tried looking at the other posts but people are talking about getting better computers or lowering the graphics or things like that, which make no sense since last week nobody in my group lagged and now everybody is lagging, but not always at the same time.

Since we have seen a number of reports like this in recent days, there indeed appears to be a performance issue somewhere that we've unfortunately not managed to diagnose yet. If you would like to help us, sending us diagnostic data as screenshots could be useful – please read more in this quote from my colleague:
You can send us those screens most easily as links posted in replies here, or you can send them as bug reports through GitHub, https://github.com/Regalis11/Barotrauma/issues. Once more, sorry for the trouble and thank you in advance for any extra information you can provide.
I apologise if that's how my comments came across (although I don't apologise for anyone else), I stand by my comments as I own a 2011 MacBook Pro myself and it would be a fine machine, I'm sure it would be capable of running Barotrauma fine, if it wasn't for the badly designed heat management, which has by the way (apparently along with Apple's poor choice of GPU IC) caused the discreet graphics to overheat and die, so now my MacBook Pro can only run on the onboard graphics which probably is not capable of running Barotrauma that well or at all. I hope the 2014 MacBook Pro is better, maybe by then they had the better GPU IC, but I still stand by the poor heat management comment.
AI running the reactor? If you mean components that form a reactor control circuit then I think that is different to the AI that the bots use. A complex custom sub might cause slow-downs for other reasons such as lots of shadow-casting lights or similar CPU intensive things which the vanilla subs generally don't have a problem with.
