Art of Sub Warfare bug (I think?)
Been noticing this in my games, specifically an older game save that I've been playing (because attempting to play any t1 scout sub solo past the Cold Caverns causes an unnecessary difficulty spike and not enough changed to depricate my older save too far), but the Art of Submarine Warfare book appears bugged. In the previous version they could stack and gave you a base of +5 weapons and I *think* helm skill that applied to any character that read them. Now they don't stack, don't provide extra skill, and on characters with max weapons skill they just vanish in the inventory when using them. And whenever I attempt to have a character read them now, they will eat through the whole batch and only *occasionally* get a +1 to weapons skill.

Books were always kinda overpowered anyway so I'm not too worried about losing out on the +5 skill gain every read, but this feels like a massive hit on one book item that doesn't stack anymore. It's effectively bloating my sec officer's inventory whenever I forget to check and empty it for him, since for whatever reason he prioritizes the books over important inventory items like oxygen masks and his own weapons, and won't put things away in his toolbelt on his own initiative.

War stories broken?
I got my security officer the war stories skill but the skill books it makes don't raise the weapons skill at all.
Is someone else having the same problem?

The art of submarine warfare doesn't work.
The art of submarine warfare does not increase skill points.

Hi! This issue should now be fixed as of the hotfix we released a moment ago: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/602960/view/4191239030281207530

Unless Im just not understanding what the perk does, I think it still might be glitched. I'll kill 5-6 enemies and nothing happens, kill a hammerhead & moloch nothing happens. Is the experience gained just very small and accumulates?

As of today (with a new campaign started today), reading that war stories skill book still provided 0 skill points. It seemed to do nothing at all.

I have 3 security officers spamming me with these books. They do barely anything, even after reading them all I get +1 or +2 . They need to be able to be combined to make a single better book, preferably while being generated inside the inventory of SO and also manually if I gather them up from multiple bots, so that reading them doesn't become an unsatisfying chore.

i have the same thing going on with mine. the first time I check my security they had a book of submarine warfare that stacked and worked but they also had 3 others that didn't stack nor give xp when read. reading them takes 2-1 second. they are still showing up after the update. the save is only a little out of date i started the save after the inventory overhaul update and ended it just before the medical overhaul update.

Bought books don't work for me either: Max weapons, 65 helm

The way the book works now is that it gives an amount of skill proportional to the number of kills the "writer" of the book got during the round. It seems though that often the amount of skill you get is less than 1 (meaning it's just progress towards the next whole skill level), in which case there's no notification about the skill increase.

It also seems that the amount of kills you need to get any meaningful skill increase seems to be pretty high now. We'll look into improving this, sorry for the inconvenience!

The fact you guys are improving on something I brought up months ago is great, I appreciate it.

After the hotfix that was mentioned in this post I tested the talent my self. In single player and multiplayer campaign. Including console spawning and killing 25 crawlers at a time to test durability. The book always despawned instantly no matter its durability. For example, the book lasts longer now with 1 kill than it did before with 25. Now it seems to work fine. No idea as to what changed.

At level 50 weapons killing a crawler at level 50 grants you 0.06315 weapon skill. For a total of 50.06315. Where 51.00 would mean level 51 weapons. This skill gain as I understand it should be from the 80 enemy health damage done.

If I reset back to level 50 and read a book with 1 crawler kill that grants you 0.028286 weapon skill. So this leads me to believe that 1 kill is worth roughly 36 health damage done to enemies. So I don't suggest pairing this talent with single large health pool enemies but instead groups of easily kill-able enemies.

As a bonus if you sit on a turret "operating it" for 5 seconds that should be the same skill gain as doing 2 enemy health damage. Or 1 crawler every 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
Bonus #2. Helm skill leveling is based on how fast your sub is moving not just sitting on the terminal alone.

As an early easy to get and shareable with your crew talent this seems much more reasonable than the earlier book that was only good for despawning. At this point I think most of the confusion will come from the store bought book being different. And this book being weaker than people expect.
