Multiplayer if you're willing to sink two million times and only take part of the responsibility.
Jokes aside, Singleplayer you will need to learn every thing and that implies in learning all mechanics/items. And there are many such. At first glance it may seem actually impossible, Multiplayer is easier to learn the game because you do only one thing.
Later on, Singleplayer turns out to be the way more viable than Multiplayer which is extremely difficult due to imperfection in overall crew decision making and time commitment. Singleplayer lets you take control over any crewmember and automate their orders when you're not controlling them, so you can macro/micro manage as you see fit
That's the best part about bots: they aren't players. I'll probably wait on this to see if they enhance the single player aspect in future updates.
No need to announce your depression man, it's okay lol. We all deal with things.
The only thing that depresses me are the common human creatures that one must see every day. It's like Idiocracy has come to life.
I had a lot of fun when I was learning the game but after a while it just became disappointing, even if you beat a clown it's a waste of resources/time.
There is nothing they can do to enhance it unfortunately, bots are really good for automation but you cannot delegate everything. You will need to learn the whole game on your own.
I don't mind having to learn everything about the game. I just want to be able to enjoy it at my pace and on my schedule without having to deal with the clown set.

If you get curious about things you may check the wiki, which is well maintained:

Outside of that you can download mods/submarines that make the game easier for singlepayer, or use the submarine editor to make your own.
The only thing you really miss from Multiplayer is, well, people screaming.
So if you'll manage to be okay without them, cool. If not, try cheating/mods. When you learn basics and advanced mechanics, do your own way.
At some point you can feel bored, that's for sure, like everything is repeating itself, but developers continue to add stuff, so that's a plus.

Even playing with one friend who I assign to deal with all matters ammo on a 20% paycheck lifts a huge amount off my back.
But it's fully plausible to play solo, yeah.
-you will probably need a backpack mod because you will be soloing all the out of sub tasks. so your carrying capacity is very limited if without backpack mod.
-bots are supa diligent when you set tasks to them and prioritize the tasks accordingly. Give them the necessary tools to perform the tasks u set them and they become way more reliable than human players. ignore those that says bots are bad, its the opposite.
