Building a new Sub with more engine and reactor power?
Good day people, I'm new here, and have had some fair share of experience in fighting swarm and transport, but thats about it.

I was thinking, is it good to have 2 engine and 2 reactor in one sub? I was hoping it will improve sub mobility.

Two engines is what some vanilla submarines do have. This provides some additional redundancy, which generally can be helpful. Usually, one is backup engine (shuttle type), weaker but also less loud. But there should be no problem just using both at once for faster movement.

As for two reactors, its typically not used. Merely giving extra power to existing reactor, or even utilizing battery array, should suffice for you. Two reactors active at same time are harder (albert not impossible) to control, both in their power outputs and in their safety from hazards. You could totally try to implement this on large enough sub just to see whether it will be good.

Be wary that bigger your sub is, the slower it goes.

As someone who got into ship building recently: you are a little mistaken there.

1) You missed the ballast part for descend speed in your pondering

2) You can edit engine power and reactor to make them like having multiple ones in power and effect

In theory, the game allows you to have two engines facing the opposite direction. And it will still work like one engine, unless you have two navigation terminals.

So unless you want to make something very weird with multiple terminals, it will not work as you might think.

I tested this myself and it doesn't really help. Example: 1 engine with a force of 500 behaves exactly the same as 2 engines with a force of 250 each. Same concept exists with reactors.

I built the u-2540 with two reactors, one engine and one creeper engine that makes less noise if you wanna try it out.

The only way to emulate faster acceleration without going bonkers fast is to set the engine with very high force, then starve it of power using a super capacitor. Tweak the super capacitor to run out at a certain speed and supply limited power when empty to maintain said speed.

Building 2 engine will force them to split in power? ohh that's kinda sad.
Having to sink and float faster may mean the ship need to be big in order to have big ballast tank. it may cause some problem on some tight spot.

Ooo those super capacitor part may need some days of tinkering for me to figure things out. building a sub may not be as easy as I thought.

I downloaded that the other day. I really like how it looks like a cutout view of a real sub.

I agree.

I assume the level generation is based upon your submarine size. And despite it might look not that easy, it is quite easy once you get used to it.

I found myself having a good time now, once I got past the wiring issues. In fact, building one from scratch makes so many things so much easier after refitting existing submarines.
Time to bump a 4 year old thread!
Multiple engines can be more aesthetically pleasing for larger ships.
