Do subs in current run update when the game does?
Hi all, lets say i start a new campaign on the current game version. Later, the devs release the next version, and it includes some changes to the subs.
Then my game updates itself fo the newly released version, and i continue my current campaign.
Will my sub have the changes indtroduced on the new version, or would i have to start a new run so i get a new sub with the latest changes introduced in the update?

So far I haven't found game updates stop me from continuing a save, I would say your progress is safe. Only thing I've noticed is when there are inventory changes like the ones coming up, there can be some weird stuff happening with anybody who was using a tool-belt that had more than six items in it. This can be fixed with a little inventory management after you load it up for the first time.

Hi! As a general rule, we try to maintain backwards compatibility as much as possible and have only seriously broken old saves with one update throughout our early access period (the complete campaign overhaul we did last summer), as far as I recall. So the assumption is always that your existing saves should largely work just fine even as the game updates...however, with custom subs or mods, something breaking is much more likely, and as Knee wrote, when we make significant changes to something pretty basic that affects the whole game, such as the inventory, there's always a chance that there will be some adverse effects too.

We appreciate reports if anything goes unexpectedly wrong following an update so that we can better anticipate those adverse effects in the future and inform players – developing an early access title with a steady player base, we don't to cause undue annoyance to anyone with updates! With the update this week in particular, I don't believe you should run into any major problems.

Thank you both for your answers & info!

The reason i asked is, I did some testing and it appears that the save game files keep a "snapshot" of the sub from when the campaign was started, and use this "snapshot" for loading the sub, instead of reading the .sub file under the Submarines/ directory again.
Hence, if a change is introduced to a sub (in the .sub file), the sub in the savefile wont have it?

Reason i suspect this (game using a snapshot of the sub in savegame file instead of the actual .sub file), is because i did an experiment:
- On the sub editor, I made a very slightly modified version of the vanilla orca. Just added a bottom camera, 3 more diving suit lockers and linked the fabricator to the storage box. I named it Orca++.

- I started a new campaign with my Orca++, played several missions

- I opened the Orca++ file on the editor again, and made a small change to the hull.

- When i loaded my saved game, the last change i made to the sub was not there (in the game), but it was saved in the Orca++.sub file (i can see it if i open it on the editor).
So it seems the game is not using the .sub file to load my orca++ when i load my saved game.

Thats why i was affraid that if changes were made to the .sub files in the coming update, my current campaign (started in the current version) would not "see" such changes.
