Game has regional prices, and as such should be affordable in other countries. Tho, perhaps in your case it's matter of friends being relatively poor, perhaps children? Well you can get the game and try for 2 hours without refunding. It's enough for them to get a taste of some co-op with you.
Only thing to care about would be buying it in a first place, but I think if they have access to PC they may be getting some pocket money or such... could save for it with some time. And if they don't like game they can get ones they like.
Also no, co-op with randoms is also quite fun. You totally can be only one who plays the game and still have fun.
To answer OP's question: no, sadly, this is not an option. I am not even entirely sure whether that's a developer/publisher/platform question, either – so I am also somewhat doubtful regarding our future plans for this sort of deal. Sorry that I can't be of more help! For what it's worth, I would like to second what Shiro says: You do not necessarily need to enter this game with friends, as we have friendly people around. If you're interested in taking a closer look at that playerbase to inform your decision, please feel free to stop by our official Discord: discord.gg/undertow
I would like to second Dynamoon here. You have nothing to apologize for. Your question was a genuine one, nothing wrong with that. All questions about the game are always welcome.
I would also add that I personally knew absolutely no one who played this game when I bought it. Eventually, by playing with other people, I made new friends, but the craziest thing is that I think I still prefer playing with random people, as it adds a chaotic variable to the game. I like to not know who is who. Is the mechanic a madman? Is the captain an incompetent? Is the security officer trigger-happy? Such unkowns make the game even better online, in my humble opinion.
Just keep this game in your wishlist and buy it when you can and feel like it, I can guarantee you that you won't regret it. I know I don't.
But yeah, usually games that lack local co-op (such as this) will also lack remote play together, because that is pretty much just local co-op streamed to other devices. And I don't think this game will be having local co-op anytime soon, or ever. I don't think it would work (for example considering the possibility for a teammate to be a traitor, having split screen would render that feature kind of redundant).
