After building it I checked the necessary materials, "it is a bit more annoying that both the produced item and the required materials involve the Alchemy Lab area but this is not the first time everything about a craft is wholly inconvenient."

Finally, to reach my main point, I checked the workbench to see what I needed to make paper glop. Then... Well... "What in the... Wheat? Entire bushels of wheat. This requires the entire plant. Not, say, the chaff which could be produced as a byproduct of making flour but the whole damned thing. This completely disregards the fact that both wood and hemp fibres would work much better and that there is otherwise little to no in-game use for the hemp plant. Not to mention this now becomes a choice between making paper or making baked goods. Just... What? Why?"

You might use hemp to produce ropes for candles :D But I got your point...

Unless they changed the system tremendously since I last played, the printing press is pretty much useless to begin with, and you are better off hand-writing stuff.
That being said, it's also much cheaper to make pigskin paper out of bats, and then transform it into clean paper.
