it has like a 5-7% chance from carves, do investigations for a better chance, also always capture for more chance.

Because you're not researching Odogaron enough specifically, or because you're really unlucky.

It seems like (from what I've seen?) you get investigations for monsters EXCEPT the one you're actually hunting. As in, if you're on an Odie mission, you can't get Odie investigations. That's just my expirience between farming Legiana, Odie, and Rathian.


And just so you know, the chance for a plate is 5% on both low and high rank, 7% for a tail carve, and 2-3% for part break drops.

It's rare.

Pretty much anything that grants research points gives a chance for investigations.
Also got a few from breaking parts.

If you're really THAT unlucky I think you should be able to get odo plates at the elder melder.

dude...u DONT want to hunt on expeditions UNLESS u are learning a monster! u get ♥♥♥♥ for rewards. target odo on SOS and join an investigation. normal mission at LEAST. then capture! gems are kinda apain but plates in general are not so bad.

what u want to keep ur eye out for is, investigations for odo that have 3-5 i think is max rewards. 1 faint is kinda meh... 15min can be questionable solo with some weapons. 4 man can do 15 easy though usually.

as for getting investigations, since u want plates u are low rank? but when u get to high rank one of the first armors is called hunter. u want to get the helmet and the boots. BOTH will super speed up ur investigations and research.

higher research on an animal will get u better/more investigations.

that's also RNG, influenced by your research level on the monster.

Only two? In previous games you could end up hunting a specific monster about 8 times until you got the rare material. Just keep trying, and remember capturing could be a better option when you want rare materials.
