Texture flickering problem (as AMD user)
Hey there.
I hope someone can help me with this problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

My problem in detail:
Whenever I move certain textures on the ground flicker from black to their normal state. This only happens if I move. If I stand still the texture is either:
a) shown correctly
b) or black

What I´ve tried so far:
I´ve read online that some people had similiar issues, or the same. In these forum posts multiple solutions were offered but nothing worked for me. Unfortunately...

What I tried so far:

  • I located the file "User\YourName\AppData\Local\Insurgency\Saved\Config\WindowsClient" and add new lines after everything else. This was what I found online which I had to fill in:
    "[TextureStreaming]
    r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=5000"
  • I tried multiple combinations with the "Streaming Pool Size"-option. From "off", "low" or "high"
  • I tried multiple combinations with the "Anisotrophic Filtering"-option. From "off", "2x", "4x", "8x" or "16x"
  • I deactivated Ambient Occlusion
  • I deactivated Tessellation
  • I verified my gamefiles
  • I checked if I have the latest gpu driver installed, which I have
  • I launched the game with "-dx12" and set Texture Streaming Pool to High

Nothing of the things listed above worked
The only thing I can think of that I can try next would be to reinstall the game.
Edit: Even a reinstall didn´t solve this issue.

My specs:

32,0 GB RAM (on 3600-18 Trident Z RGB )
Windows 10 Pro
Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 1TB / Samsung 860 Evo 2TB SSD (the game is installed on the 2TB SSD, while Steam is installed on the 1TB SSD)
GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 6800
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
64-Bit-operating system, x64-based processor

I would be glad for any help at all. :)

Hi,

I have the same issue with my 6900XT referance model.

It hapens only in Sandstorm (other UE4 games like Squad and Post Scripum are fine)
Other games on Unity engine like Tarkov are also fine.

So far I asumed that it was caused by the current buggy AMD drivers. But it will be nice if there is some other solution for this issue.

currently for the RX 6000 series, only two drivers are supported.
20.12.1 and 20.12.2 with very minor diferance between the two and I alredy uninstalled and installed them both like 30 times.

both driver versions have the following issues in the list of the current know issues:
-Brightness flickering may intermittently occur in some games when Radeon FreeSync is enabled, and the game is set to use borderless fullscreen.

-Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround

In my case, I have Eizo Foris FS2735, also tryed to compleatly turn off FreeSync from the monitor itself, but the situation is the same.

6800 XT reporting in with terrible texture flickering from black back to the texture when moving. It seems to go away when I get closer to the texture and only for ground textures. I have tried everything possible and it seems it must be a driver issue. Looks like AMD / NWI need to figure out whatever is going wrong with RDNA2...

adding -dx12 launch option and have texture streaming pool size set to HIGH(NOT OFF) solved the flickering for me.
Setting texture streaming pool size to OFF in dx12 mode results in very poor texture quality, this is because the actual pool size is set to "0MB" instead of unlimited.
With VRAM usage limited to only 6GB, some texture loading latency may be observed, it's much better than playing with annoying flickering.

the -dx12 lunch option and setting streaming pool to high didn´t work for me also.
there are several threads on this issue

hmm...how about deleting all config files of the game?
C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Insurgency\Saved\Config\WindowsClient
just delete the directory.
and I guess clean reinstalling GPU driver using Display Driver Uninstaller also might help.

I did that severeal times already. last time was tonight after instalation of 21.2.2 Drivers.
unfortunately there is no change at all.

21.2.2 is still a Beta driver from AMD probably we must wait for full release, meanwhile I will be more than happy to try other solutition for this issue.

Otherwise the game runs great, well above 144 frames maxed out on 1440p especialy after I upgraded my CPU from 1800X to 3800X, but this issue is so anoying.

This works for me on my 6800XT. This game man...

After I installed Radeon Adrenalin Edition 21.3.1 the issue was still present.
And after upgrade from Windows LTSB to LTSC 2019 the issue was still present...

BUT I was finaly able to luch it successfully with -dx12 and by setting the texture streaming pool from OFF to High everything is up and running.

It is good to be back :D

Can confirm this works for me on my 6800XT

Thank god that worked.
Glad AMD got this done!
