Game turns off my PC
So, whenever I boot up the game I join a game and play for a few minutes and then out of nowhere my PC just shuts off completly, like someone just unplugged it.

I've heard a few people saying that it could be to overheating but when I play the game my PC doesnt get hot at all.

There are also people saying that it could be a power supply issue but my power supply works fine exept for in the game.

The annoying thing is that the game used to work for the first couple hours I played of it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Whats your PC specs? This issue is going to be really tough to diagnose over the internet =/

Excuse me if these aren't the right things you need to know (i'm not a techy guy)

Processor: AMD FX - 8350 Eight-Core Processor (4 GHz) (x64 - based processor)
Ram: 16GB
OS: Windows 10 (64 - bit)

again, sorry if they're not the right things, just let me know what to look for if there's anything in particular you need to know.

Thanks

Those are good initial specs. So when the pc turns off , are there messges or maybe blue screens with white letters or is it just a hard shutdown and the pc goes silent? Also how long do you play the game until it turns off? After it turns off, are you able to turn it on instantely or pressing the power button doesnt turn it on right away and you need to wait a bit?

No, there's no message displayed at all. The PC just instantly turns off as if someone just unplugged it from the wall. It turns straight back on with a push of the power button after turning off. The amount of time it takes to crash is usually about 5-10 minutes until everything shuts down. Even when I turn it back on however there is no message or warning or crash log, nothing...

Ok isee. This could be a possible psu issue or heat issue. Lets start with the heat issue first. Turn on your pc and check to see what temp its at (before playing this game). You can check this by downloading msi afterburner. Check the cpu temps before playing and then start the game and check it during play time. Check other games first, dont try this one first. I just want to see idle temps first and then load temps in other games to get a base reading. Then we'll get to sandstorm later on.

Temp results:

Doing Nothing - 28 - 32°C
A Game Called Verdun (decently demanding) - 35 - 45°C [ish]
Insurgency (homescreen) - slow climb from 35°C to slowly creeping up and up past 50°C peaking at about 54°C
Insurgency (mid - game) - 40 - 43°C

Now, after downloading MSI afterburner and increasing my fan speed and lowering the max temperature, the issue seems to have gone. I dont know whether this is a fix longterm however and will update if the issue persists.

Thanks for your help

OK so this definately isnt a heat issue, the issue has returned today and I was looking at the temperature on MSI Afterburner as I was playing and the temperature was only like 32°C or lower and then the PC turned off.

Frustrating...

What power supply do you have and how old is it?
Dr. Sinister Jan 6, 2019 @ 8:40am
If it's not a heating issue then it's a hardware issue. Games don't turn PC's off
NicoCoco Jan 6, 2019 @ 11:12am
Ah ok i see. Its not a heat issue. The next thing to try out is the psu. My way to try it out is to swap PSUs but not everyone has a spare PSU at home. Maybe someone could tell OP how to try out the PSU?

Try limiting the FPS to 30 as a test. Try it first in your graphic driver (NVidia control panel/Catalyst if available) software. Then try it in game, and then try VSync if all else fails. See if that works.
I once had this same issue where all temps reported ok, but as soon as I capped the FPS to 60 (from like 150+) my PC never did that again on that particular game. Strange enough, it was on the first Insurgency game that this happened to me. :-)

uninstall the game and reinstall it and try it. this was the same thing that happened to star wars battlefront 2 2017 and it works fine since i did it

Hi, clean your computer inside out with compressed air.

FX 8350 AMD CPU's have a reputation for running hot when overclocked...unless you increase HSF cooling and most especially the VRM's can run hot and require a cooling solution/ extra fan on them. Nobody in the last few years has made a decent mobo for the FX 83xx and FX 9xxx CPU's...other'n maybe an ASUS Crossfire whatever version.... That's why those CPU's all of them are so cheap now. They are excellent CPU's with a decent mobo and cooling.

My first guess would be your problem is temp related with throttling and a shut down. Better airflow and VRM cooling needed.

My second guess would be the PSU, it's age, quality and Watts?

What Mobo, make model are you running? What make model wattage PSU are you using?

Lastly, for the moment, Wife's FX 6350 uses Open Hardware Monitor for system temps and seems accurate. Try it? Not all temp programs work well or accurately with FX CPU's...google is your friend there.... Best of Luck

@NicoCoco, I was facing the same issue of PC Shutting down after few mins of Insurgency Sandstorm. even though I had powerful specs and this happened for Insurgency Sandstorm only. After a lot of trials I figured it and the issue is now resolved. In Video>Advance> you will see the Resolution Scale. Keep it to 50. If its 100, the GPU heats up and the machine shuts down under load.
