Yes, I got this impression too. There's no video memory involved here at all. It's a server for fcuk's sake!
Thanks for this! Can you please share how many player slots your friend's server is running with? For coop that I want it should be considerable less RAM (I assume) than for PvP. Or?
Actually, I'd say expect more as the AI will eat up memory and CPU.
From what I have observed that was not really the case for Insurgency v1. CPU yes, but more memory was consumed when I was increasing max player count, comparing to bots. Of course, I don't know about how Sandstorm server behaves - that's why I started this discussion.
Then you and I have very different experiences ... because our servers required both more CPU and memory when bumping up the AI count on Ins1 - admittedly not massive more amounts of RAM but definitely an increase.
You asked for a coop server so it was for a coop server.
I'm curious...are you running on Linux VMs? Because we have multiple servers running on Windows boxes and the 32 slot coop server (8 players and up to 24 bots) usually takes up well over 2.2GB and overhead for the operating system eats up a bit extra (hence the 4GB not to scrape the ceiling) ... so how you get a sandstorm coop server running on a 1GB VM sounds like magic to me - well...Magic or Linux ;)
Yes, I'm running a Ins1 checkpoint-only server with 8 player slots + 24 bots, 24/7. Hosting it on VPS with 2x2.4GHz + 1GB RAM + 30 GB SSD (10.5 used) = no issues.
No, not Sandstorm, I'm still running Insurgency 1 server. Currently studying requirements for Sandstorm - that's why I'm here :)
Ok, I think you are right - was writing from my memory, but looking into config history I realized I was playing around with amount of bots, not players.
Aaaaah....makes a lot more sense - as said, the memory footprint I see for our Sandstorm is clsoe to 2.2GB for the server alone...but yet, Ins1 servers can almost run on a Raspberry Pi! ;)
:D
I will go with 2GB then. Unfortunately my VPS provider is slow, and increasing RAM on a VM takes few hours - that's why I'm asking all the requirements. Thanks for your info - most likely you saved me a day :)
Btw, forgot to mention - I'm running on Debian, if it makes any difference (of course it does!)
