Recommend Server host?
Currently looking for a recommendation for a Sandstorm server host? We are running currently a 12 player server with max. of 40 bots and would like to find a host that can handle it, if possible. USA based. Thanks

it depends on what u wanna host. You want a game server host or a dedicated server. If you want a dedicated server there are a lot around super cheap. You can get a cloud server or a dedicated server.

Dedicated server (Pay monthly/annual):
https://www.ovh.com/world/dedicated-servers/ (Cheap but have to go through security check)
https://www.reliablesite.net/dedicated-servers/

Cloud VPS (On demand service. You pay for what you use):
https://www.digitalocean.com/
https://www.vultr.com/

I used all of those above. OVH is cheapest for me but you have to go through some security check. It one of their system to prevent fraud.

The only problem is you will have to manage the whole server yourself but you have FULL CUSTOMIZE with everything. You will have to pick the specs and disk space wisely. If you are using the dedicated server for game server then it better to pick a CPU i5 or higher.

If you don't know how to setup server and stuff then use game server hosting service instead like:
https://www.nfoservers.com/ (Expensive but fast customer support)
https://www.gameservers.com/ (Cheap but customer support really slow)
https://eoreality.net/

The only problem for using game server hosting is that they will limit you. For instance, they will limit your player slot and make you pay more for more slot. You don't have full access to your server. You will have to use their tool whatever they provide to you to restart your server and such but you don't have to worry about the game server not working or anything. They are the one who will take responsible to keep your server up for you.

Pretty much what Circleus said above. When I ran a SS server and two 2014 Ins servers a year ago, I used a cheap desktop, that I bought new for $375. It was, and is a AMD 7850 K APU, nothing fancy and came with Windows 10 Pro. I put 16 gig of Ram in it and put two Insurgency 2014 servers on it. This was back in 2015, I believe? Sandstorm came out and I added it to the server. All three games running at the same time and never had any problems with the 'server load'. Whoops, just remembered I also had three cheap 120 gig SSD's in it.

My suggestion, if you have the bandwidth, I have a 100 meg down and 8 up, is to buy a cheap 4 core computer used, 6-8 years old, that was a gaming rig back then. As long as it has Win 7 or better, you're good to go. Depending on the internals of the Computer, I wouldn't pay more than $250 for it. Shoot, upon further thought, an old laptop could prolly get it done?

Do I need to purchase a second Sandstorm game to run a host from? I have 300 down 20 up and would like to give it a try if possible

No you don't
If you pay for game server hosting they will set it up for you. If you run your own dedicated server or pay for it, you just have to download sandstorm server file and run it. Should take a look at the server guide that's pinned.
