Flashbangs are too OP and not realistic.
Flashbangs are too OP and not realistic.

I have had flashbangs going off right next to me various times, one time I even had my foot on a flashbang. In both cases I did not recognize more than a ridiculously loud boom and a slight pressure on my ear.

I certainly wasn't blind for like 1 minute as shown in the game and I honestly doubt a flashbang has any valuable effect against a trained fighter who is expecting enemy contact in the first place, especially not when it blows off like 5 or 10 meters in front of you.

Flashbangs are far too powerful in this game, almost like a magical spell to make people blind and disoriented, THIS is not how flashbangs feel, work or happen to influence the target.

I get that this is a game and you somehow have to express the effect of a flashbang, but cutting down on being blind time would already be good enough.

Huh. I remember hearing that IRL the blindness lasts up to like ten minutes for some people. Perhaps it's subjective!

They really aren’t OP. I’m very rarely killed while blinded and if any tiny object comes between it and my eyes, it does nothing.

If they’re any worse, they’ll be pointless.

There is no blindness in real life.

? Are we playing the same game? My screen is coloured all white for quite a while.

Sounds like you haven't experienced a real flash-bang.

I.e. you're lying.

I.e. you just don't like flash-bang behaviour as it is currently in-game and want to change it.

/Delete thread.

It lasts a longish time if you’re staring straight at it. Look away even slightly and it makes a huge reduction.

Real flashbangs don't generate light to the degree of damaging your retina's...which would be the only thing that could cause a long-lasting blindness.

That isn't how your eyes work, stop wishing it were the case so you can cudgel your ♥♥♥♥ wishes onto other people so you can have a free line of kills because you suck at clearing rooms.

Flashbangs need to actually DO something or there is literally no reason to use them. They already suck enough to make frags better almost every time. This is a game which can't replicate the actual disorientation of loud noises, flashes of light and inner ear fluid displacement so something needs to happen to make them effective. Why would anyone spend a point on a breaching tool that is literally useless at breaching?

I don't give a flying monkey's toss one way or the other about it, I don't use flash-bangs in-game because I play co-op all the time and it's not necessary. But that doesn't mean I believe bangs need a casual-facing change.

Real bangs and other assorted light-emitting stun grenades do cause temporary blindness if the device when activated is within one's ocular field of view. OP thinks they're OP because they haven't actually experienced this weapon IRL and if they had they'd know that the in-game representation is not realistic for the wrong reasons; the blindness IRL lasts longer than it does in-game.

But they are well balanced and very useful in a game when there may be an enemy waiting round every corner

I am not lying. Flashbangs don't make you blind. They will give you shadows when triggered in a dark closed room, but that is about it.

Anyone who claims otherwise has never seen a real flashbang blow off and only knows it from the movies. I have probably used a dozen flashbangs during training myself as well as on riots as I have spent 8 years with the military police.
I doubt that most users on here have ever even hold anything other than an air soft.

This is what it looks like:

But I see I am dealing with real experts here again, insurgency forums. Meh.

Cheers. Let's just keep it as it is and not improve the game.

One cool idea would be making them a bit more like stun grenades in the old call of duty's, but instead of a slow aim, make the aim have input delay to simulate the dizziness.

But yea, I would be against a straight nerf, because that would make them pointless. Like they're already inconsistent at times.

I see your concern.

Agreed, this sounds like a solid solution to solve the issue and make them more realistic. I get that this has to be implemented in to a game FOR a game somehow and is not real life. But I think this would be an easy solution, better than having a white screen for 20 years as this is nothing like what happens in real life.
