Wp is great for dark/less light maps
Amber is great for bright/more light maps.
Green is more balance.
MC suck, not only its sensitive to light but its having hard time lighting up the dark areas. Its best to use it on close quarter or just like the other guy said, indoors.
If you're on a really dark map, WP can be a better option though. Green kinda sits right in the middle of the bunch, not blinding, but provides just enough in darker areas. I just can't run MC with my eyes, so I can't speak for that one. Keep attachments in mind as well. Since I'm essentially limited to the one option, an IR flashlight makes all the difference for me and with amber, it provides just the right amount of light for me.
Also keep gamma in mind. Everybody is going to have different settings on their monitors an in-game, so it can be quite a large difference between what they see compared to you even if you both run the exact same colour and NVG type.
IRL wise it helps you see farther and in more detail and lessens Eye strain, because Real Green NVG's can lead to temp discolored vision after a few hours
