It's a shame, but many indie devs are already stepped into the gap. Let's see what's coming.
Insurgency coop checkpoint pacing is the most fun to me from all these games(normal or hardcore), so I dont think there will be anything close to it, unless someone makes a game with similar mode. I think only NWI can make a game like this, so if they arent going to make a sequel or at least keep updating this game, its just kinda a loose end.
For me IS2 and IS3 have the best movement (if you mod it) in FPS and the gunplay and effects, sounds etc. are still the best on the market.
The first mod/indie game copying this will niche-explode (meaning getting a playerbase of around 10k easily) and GB could be a viable candidate. The guns are superb (realism), movement and effects are still lacking a lot, some maps look crap and it's still a long way. But it looks promising.
RoN has the same problem for me - to somehow keep 12-year-old brats from bunnyhopping through the game, adult players have to endure unrealistic clunky movements without being able to jump, or dart away from threats and grenades. It feels off. Like standing in traffic: You want to move, but you can't. It's a well known psychological phenomenon and shouldn't be implemented into games, because it WILL annoy your players, leading to a potential quit and a dying playerbase at some point.
On the other hand, developing games gets easier and easier and what was a serious problem 5 years ago (animations) is easy as pie now (take your phone, let AI do the job, refine it in UE), mechanics in UE5 for example allow for procedural mapdesign, work without the so hated LODs in many areas now, software handle fabric and clothes way better now etc. ...
Good chances for somebody with dedication.
Then I got bored. I had 2 months break from Insurgency and now I have fun again. People should play if they want. If you don't want to, play something different. You have this game in your library it's not like you can't come back after break.
For me it's more about the teamplay than any other stuff. I mostly play with one weaponconfig and would be totally fine with 5 maps and 5 weapons if only some additional mechanics would enhance the gameplay (e.g. more realism, better bots)
Guess it's a lot different for many others though.
One reason why ISMC has been so successful.
5000 hours in this game ? You seriously spent all this time in this clearly dead game ? As in dead, I mean its soul is gone. Why play this when you have MW2 with pretty much the same aesthetic. Seek a psychologist or a priest my friend, I am dead serious.
