'Invisible bot' troubleshooting thread.
Previously some users reported experiencing 'invisible bots' or 'floating gear'.

Our team are currently having trouble replicating this issue on our test machines and are looking for additional information from affected users.

  • Do *all* bots appear ‘invisible’ or only select types?
    • Are specific classes, cosmetics, or bot types affected?
  • Does this issue occur on all co-op game types?
    • Does this issue appear on Checkpoint?
    • Does this issue appear on Hardcore Checkpoint?
    • Does this issue appear on Frenzy Checkpoint?
  • Has this issue ever occured outside of Co-op?
    • Has this issue occurred during off-line play?
    • Has this issue occurred in PVP modes?
  • Does this issue occur at any specific times, e.g on first load, during counter-attacks etc?
  • Do bots only appear ‘invisible’ in first person, or do they also appear invisible in spectator mode?
  • Do bots appear invisible for *all* players on the server or just you?
  • Are you using any custom config files or launch parameters that could be interfering with the game?
  • Does this issue also occur on community servers, official matchmaking, or both?
  • How frequently does this issue occur?

Please supply some information about the machine you are using. To help our team identify if this issue is related to specific hardware or software configurations.
  • Please list your full pc specs or provide a DxDiag.
  • Please list your video settings and driver version.
Where possible please provide screenshots or recordings of the issue, using Debug Overlays for FPS Counter, Network Stats, and level location (These can be found under Settings > Game > DeBug Settings). Please also include the ReplayID of the game this issue occurred in.

We appreciate your time helping our team investigate and resolve this issue.

It happens to Jumpers, Flamers, Frenzied and occasionally any regular bot in HC or normal checkpoint.

Suicide bombers and bruisers are not affected.

I have seen it affect NPCs with light and no carrier.

Most commonly, blue or red shirt Frenzied (light or no carrier), no carrier jumpers (white shirt), no carrier flamers.

I have seen it happen to any type of bot in checkpoint except those wearing heavy carrier. I have never seen a floating heavy carrier.

I have seen it happen to every class of bot in checkpoint except suicide bomber.

I will work on creating a longer and more current video that shows invisible bots in the other game modes besides Frenzy, which is briefly shown here.


EDIT: Changing graphics settings, verifying, reinstalling and deleting INSS data in %APPDATALOCAL% did not help.

It's been around so long, it might as well be a feature lol.

It wouldn't be the first time that a glitch became a legitimate feature (think flying to the skybox when a giant hits you in Skyrim).

Happens mostly with those fire dudes and sometime those teleporting freaks.
I also have seen flying machetes.

This has only ever occurred in Frenzy, when there are multiple bots spawning at once.

I usually play Checkpoint as Security (official servers) and have seen the issue a good bit over the past maybe 2 months. I will try to get a replay next time. I can't narrow it down to any type of bot or time within the game. I'm on Nvidia 431.60 which is the latest driver.

Their corpse spawns when they die. It has a "stringy" textures effect for a moment when the body spawns, and it spazzes out pretty hard for a moment.

Both me and a friend will get the invisible bug on the same bot. We play on official checkpoint. Seems to occur to insurgent bots. I can't recall an instance of a security bot having this glitch, but I don't want to dismiss the possibility.

I don't think we're running the same gfx settings. But we do have the same video card, a GTX 1070. Not sure about driver versions, sorry. We do not run custom launch parameters or configs.

One time I was able to observe the glitch in more detail though.
During the final defence on Checkpoint Crossing Security, I was overlooking the hill towards the bot spawn. I thought I saw what was a prone bot on the hill, but upon looking closely the model's skeleton was folded in on itself. It looked like a black tumbleweed of limbs trying to violently mash itself through the terrain. Shooting it did nothing. I don't remember seeing a bloodsplatter.
My friend then called out, "Invisible bot!" and shot his harness floating down the road. Upon death, the model stretched into spaghetti flying from its position on the hill to 're-sync' with his harness' death location.

So perhaps the bot's model is somehow separating itself from its rig/skeleton? Hopefully from this observation of the glitch, someone with more technical knowledge than I can garner something.
I wish I could give you more info, but that's all I know off the top of my head. I could try going back and hunting for the replay ID, if necessary.

i only play frenzy and can say I've only seen it happen on flamers and ninjas...
I see maybe 1 ghost for say very 2 hours of play i'm on 970gtx 4GB 431.60 ndriver, 16GB ram, 3.5ghz cpu, 3440x1440 game running around 80fps,
it generally seems to happen a good few mins into a round... I don't remember seeing it at the start of a round, generally its during pretty heavy play with a lot of dead bodies and a lot smoke and fire effects going on...

Not gonna lie I thought the invisible teleporter I saw a few times was a rare spawn or something.
