What exactly do slugs and flechette rounds do in shotguns?
I see many people arguing about shotgun balance and stuff like that, and the in-game discriptions for them is missing (or blank, I think it's a bug). What does equiping them do?

makes it more effective against armor. Odd choice to make 1 point out of all the attachments. Even odder considering no other weapons get ammo choices.

Which makes it more effective to armor? Did you mean both?
Slugs are basically singe shots that turn your shotgun into a sniper in most games. (Have yet to try it in this game though) and flechette is like little darts that are more effective at longer ranges and are more accurate than regular shells but worse damage up close. (Agian, yet to try so i dont know for sure) Hope this helped

I believe the flechette rounds do, and the slugs are one shot kills from a considerable distance.

In reality a slug will drop someone in one shot better than a full sized rifle round. It's more difficult to hit past 100m because of bullet drop, but that may not be much of an issue in most engagement situations in insurgency.

But, a slug is not armor piercing, and shouldn't really be giving you better armor penetration. It will do a lot more blunt trauma force to the person behind the armor than a 5.56, but it won't penetrate.

Flechettes don't even exist as feasible shotgun rounds anymore. As far as I know it's just novelty ammo that no one uses. They were experimental in Vietnam. They sent out lots of little strait needles. I am aware of no real advantage they offer over buckshot. They will mildly penetrate soft body armor better, but won't penetrate plate armor. Theoretically they are suppose to have more energy at longer range, not losing it as fast as buckshot, but in practice they have their own problems.
