Necro-thread but I'd also like to know, and what are recommended headsets for best audio location cue tracking.

i play using Bose 5.1 surround sound system and it works but it seems that if this game doesn't use the center channel

I have 7.1 logitech surround headphones. It's ok but not true 7.1, they need to work on footsteps but other sounds are amazing, best fps sounds around! Very immersive!

I've heard of Corsair before. Been a Sennheiser fan for many years...great sound and they are bulletproof. I'm running an onboard Realtek chip on a gaming mobo with Windows Sonic virtual surround....not bad, just wondering if there's better. I'm not a fan of USB headsets since they use their own DAC which may vary in quality depending on $. And we use Teamspeak which, at least in past experience, can be a PITA to use with digital sets.

Do you use the Razer synopsis software for these? If so can you tell me which version youre using? Thanks.

I use a creative sound blaster XAE with 7.1 on byerdynamic 770s. Works damn good. If the game supports it.. No idea but the settings I use on my sound card make it so I can hear where someone is just by then reloading or scoping.

Thanks. Directional cues are already decent with my setup, just looking at options.

Using Logitech's software, seems decent enough, very customizable...

I have a Klim 7.1 USB headset and whether or not it's true 7.1 I couldn't say, but with 7.1 turned on through their program the positional sound is quite good..and the rest of the sounds are excellent.

i use a 7.1 headset and when im playing i have no problems to hear if a enemy is on my right or left side. also not so much if its behind me or infront.
but its hard to decide if this is for example on my left side behind me or on my left side infront of me. (11'' or 7'' for example)
in many games its much easyer to hear a noise and locate exact the specific area just by hearing that noise.. in I:S its more like guessing. many times i heard a noise, covered a area because i was 100% certain he is there and then he popped up like almost behind me.

in squad for example, its not perfect too.. but when there is an enemy in a building, 3 lvls above of me and 200m far away, one shot from him and i dont have to look up there in panic and search the target. i can focus on taking cover immediately because i know his position, return fire or whatever...
at least if thats the case im able to react appropriate to the current situation. and note this is with the same headset.

this i something we need in this game too, its a tactical shooter. things like this have to be possible. im not frustrated about it, especially because i know its not a huge company and im not the only one, i just want to say there is still alot space for improvements in this case.

Using Sennheiser PC363D here. AMAZING experience, and the surround is REAL.

Depending on your software you can have both true surround (as in the game fully supporting it) or have your software create simulated surround (as in your software differentiates and creates the difference itself).
Get some open back Sennheisers or Audio Technica. Or something else. You can install 7.1 surround if you want (it's just a software).
