Why doesnt this game use the steam workshop
OG insurgency has 12191 mods most of which add new guns or change their look
This game has like 300 and almost all of them are maps cause they are using some trash third party modding backend
Thats just sad

But we have MOD IO. I guess they make it to be compatible with console version.

Muh console mod support

Fallout 4 was having it. But they also could don't make compatible steam workshop because Sandstorm is not on source (INS14 was on source and was compatible with workshop) and they don't want to spend time on it.

Squad has steam workshop, and uses UE4 just like Sandstorm

Maybe this is reason.

So you can have mods on the console version which would probably have never happened if the holy embracer group didn't come and buy nwi
Instead you have modio, which requires you to run the game and when you close it while it's downloading, it'll still run and download the mod and close after it's finished, but after that you'll have to download again because ♥♥♥ you that's why

Most mods are re-textures and sound replacements, model replacements are few and far between in comparison.

Cause that is what NWI chose to support and develop&release tools for.

But I guess lack of developer support for modding is inherently casued by what is essentially a cloud hosting file server, makes perfect sense !

The problem is that it does not. NWI could have used their own launcher as a stand-in and hook Mod.io API to that.
People blame mod.io for issues not caused by them at all :3

Yeah, it seems like Ghost Ship Games integrated mod.io into Deep Rock Galactic very well because it downloads mods very fast and without problems compared to Insurgency Sandstorm, but those are mostly smaller mods, I don't know how it would handle bigger ones.

The thing is: people trust steam.
I trust steam when i download workshop items from it.

I dont know mod.io and i dont trust them nor do i wish to know and trust them.

Very few folks came forward with reasonable stance like you did.
Vast majority of these topics (OP included) are more or less made up reasons to hate on mod.io.

Cause consoles

Let alone the fact they locked a lot of ♥♥♥♥ behind the hardcode wall, making stuff like custom bots, logic, anims etc. borderline impossible unless you want to make it your day job.

They honestly thought they were going to have the game ready for console...with how swell of a job they did in Alpha and Beta...and then after...until they couldn't handle the weight of their mistakes and put it in the bin for a bit.

Now we're stupid with a crappy mod platform and soon console squawks who'll have the same gripes as the rest of us. I hope whatever other game this dev is working on is 10 times better than what they gave here...

Modio a worthless third party that isnt needed cause steam workshop exists = made up non argument
"its scewwy" = reasonable stance

It's another instance of these devs making an inferior product in order to appease console customers that they've never even had. A part of me hopes the game is a huge success on consoles, so that they didn't make this game worse for no reason, but another part of me hopes it fails a bit, as they sold me a product that was dumbed down for consoles.
