Gas masks are free for insurgents but cost 1 supply for security.
Monocle night vision costs 2 supply for both factions which include 3 different color schemes (White, Green, and Amber)
The next upgrade would cost 3 supply, but it will grant you (almost) max field of vision with night vision. Same color schemes
Security would exclusively have a multi color night vision that would cost 4 supply.
ALSO, make sure you're not in the main menu customizing your loadout or the NVGs won't show. You must be in a server that is currently playing a night map in order to be able to equip it.
If you don't like night vision at all and you're stuck playing in it just go to settings>video>gamma and crank the gamma to the max and then you'll see night maps brighter without NVGs (psst, also saves a bunch of supply too hehe but it kinda breaks the immersion of the game)
This is VERY important. Many people I know can't figure out how to equip NVGs because they are on the main menu. You need to start a night map game and there you configure and save your night maps loadouts.
Amber isn't as harsh with washout from lights as green, white phosphorus and multicolor are.
Point shooting is a double edged sword. You will want it more often than not, but certain situations it can be a burden. If you take point shooting you cannot look down your sights with NGVs on unless you are on a bipod.
Both flashlights can be extremely annoying for team mates around you, avoid using them if you can.
Don't bother with night scopes unless you are going to be in a static position over watching a large outdoor area and keep track of where you team mates are. If it's a close quarters map, you don't even need a weapon sight if you're using point shooting.
If you're gonna walk into a room with friendlies already inside, wave your IR laser around all crazy before you come in so they see it, or flip it on and off repeatedly. Also, just announce you are coming in, that's something you should always do day or night.
In co-op, just go slow, the enemy are nearly blind so unless you're being crazy loud they can be withing 5 feet of you and not see you.
