Sound mods?
Do any sound mods exist? I really liked the old insurgency's workshop with custom guns and sound mods. The sounds are okay in this game, the old insurgency had better gunshot sounds imo.

They have abandoned Steam Workshop because of consoles. We can't have sound mods which persist through servers. It's another downgrade to push the PC down to the level of consoles.

This is not true, Steam Workshop is only a mod distribution platform, which allows people to upload/download and rate mods, mod.io offers the same functionality. Neither Mod.io or Steam Workshop are actually used to create mods.

They type of content that is available for players to mod is due to differences in the way the game handles assets (compared to the old engine we were using) and what is exposed via the editor. - Sandstorm.game/editor

We are continuing to work on, and expand, our modding tools for Sandstorm, however, there will always be some differences between Sandstorm and our previous titles due to the different technologies used.

In Insurgency and Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat each weapon used only one sound for each action (firing, reloading, empty), this was relatively easy for players to modify. However, Insurgency: Sandstorm uses more modern audio techniques with each sound being made up of 200+ components and mixed in-game.

And we can crossfade and manipulate all of that over distance. … So yeah, we’ve come a long way. Each of those 10 layers can have between five and 15 individual assets for them,” he said.

As a result, each weapon has a unique sound, which makes it easier for players to identify the threats they’re facing. And that kind of information is important in a game like Sandstorm, where the HUD is sparse compared to other multiplayer shooters.

I don't see how this has anything to do with consoles, its just the way the game is setup, seems no mods get loaded till you connect to a server and then it uses what the server has, I'm sure its possible in the future even with the current setup, even if it was Steam Workshop right now there would be no sound mods >.<

UE4 Modding is just different to Source, for one everything gets thrown into a single file with UE4 so its a bit harder to just overwrite some sounds.

You know: another downgrade which 'doesn't exist.'
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

The Steam Workshop has never required me to register/log into a separate website, or install the Epic Games Launcher in order to access mod tools.

Honestly, I'm not too fussed. The sounds in Source were ok, but not stellar, so sound mods made the game more enjoyable. The sounds in Sandstorm don't suffer from that though, so mods really aren't needed imo.

You right, in game audio is super good. BUT some of the options made available by mods were incredible. Having the ability to have like, legitimately deafening gunfire and explosions was so cool.
Not to say this games guns aren't loud mind you. They just aren't as... impactful as some of those mods were.

Yeah, I getcha. Honestly, the one game that does weapon sounds better imo is the new Modern Warfare. The sounds, animations, etc, are far better. At the same time, the animations especially, are partly due to them being very different games, as the speed is the main difference.

haha there was no mod even coming close to the soundstage and of sandstorm, modern warfare sounds good but way more compressed and flat than this game.

I honestly think most of sandstorm's weapon sounds are boring and unsatisfying

I couldn't find this type of mod on mod.io. Did you find it later? Insurgency 2 can use the sound of call of duty gunshots, and I really hope this game will do the same
