Shotgun is brutal
Anyone else find the shot gun too powerful? i dont know what shotgun it is but im getting one shot killed by it from quite far away too and it sounds like the guy had a silencer on it.

Ive seen videos real ones where People testing how far away a shotgun is fatal or not. And i tell you THE result of a fatal shot is from a pretty far away distance!
And shotguns do have a (compressed) sounds when fireing in My research tho. Could differ from brands and styles.

shotgun is pretty powerful however in close range its not as reliable as it should be. the spread on the pellets are pretty tight so if you miss your shot your pretty much done for. i seem to be dying from shotgun slugs more than regular shot ammo.

Shotguns are fine and well balanced, play with it, you'll see the strong and weak points...

It's not a bad thing to have a few one shot/kill weapons...

Sandstorm is one of the few games to get shotguns right, all other games nerf it until people like yourself stop complaining and nobody picks them anymore.

Oh ya, armor up and use cover!

I'm all for being one shot killed but not at the current distances. Shotguns should dominate in a room not outside in the open. If i go into a room and get one shotted by a shotgun then gg i deserve to get killed but Assault rifle outside with full body armor against a silenced shotgun, nah.

And i always wear full armor.

Shotguns are some of the most powerful and versatile weapons in terms of ammo it can use. Ignoring things like 9mm conversion sleeves, simply changing from birdshot to 00'Buck, used ingame, can change your effective range by A LOT.
I had a completely open tube on my 870 Express Tactical, same M870 that's ingame, and it hit all 9 pellets on a man sized silhouette, at 25 yards. They were all over the guy, but a hit is a hit. If you apply a choke, different/better ammo maybe, a lot can change. Shotguns are absolutely lethal even at distance and you'd best take that into account. Move from cover to cover, keep more distance if you know there's a shotgun guy. The less pellets hitting you the better, and they do disperse over distance. Now if they run slugs? You can easily take 100 yard+ shots with slugs in real life, I'd imagine in this game it's no different.

Nah, you're simply wrong and have been brainwashed by years of crap games.

The 870 has a good range but low rate of fire with 8 shots and slow reload but are not just leathal at 10 feet.

Educate yourself instead of saying nah, you haven't even tried it yourself...

If you did try it you'd know it's not an op or easy weapon to use, miss your shot, get lag, wonky movement = your dead.

Another thign about armor that people get wrong, is energy transfer. Not sure if it's taken into account ingame, but in real life even if armor stopped a bunch of shotgun pellets or a slug, that energy goes somewhere. Into the armor, which, you are wearing, so it goes into you. People shot with armor on end up with cracked ribs, bruising, completely broken bones, they get knocked over and winded. There's a reason when you have hard armor plates on, you put a trauma pad or soft armor behind it.
Fact is, shotguns have a lot of energy behind em. Slugs and 00 especially.

Bingo. Lots of people seem to think armor makes u bullet proof, when actually it just prevents u from dying in the hospital. U will still be jacked up big time from getting hit on plates.

This games gun dynamics are supposed to mimic reality and the truth is a shotgun is absolutely devastating in real life. Depending on shell and choke alot of the time the pellets havent even left the wad untill around 5 or so yards, so virtualy anything inside that distance you have just shot with a slug.

Yeah, Sandstorm & Day of Infamy have great shotguns. Used them constantly in DOI.

Remove silencers from shotguns and make them a 2-3 hit against a full health light/heavy armor combo. This is ridiculous, shotguns are very lethal, within 100 yards on an UNARMORED target.

Shotguns should not 1 shot chest tap people wearing SOFT LVL 3A ARMOR and LVL 4 CERAMIC RIFLE PLATES.

Youre right, about soft armor. Rifle Plates negate that, try again. The plate spreads out the force and the soft armor behind it dissipates it even more.

According to 'the internet' a 00 Buckshot shotgun has around 2000 Joules of muzzle energy (roughly the same as an AK47).
That's roughly a 4 kg brick dropped from a height of 50 meters, not factoring in wind-resistance.
Not that I'm speaking with any personal experience, but... ouch. With a hard-hat that might not obliterate your skull, but your neck isn't going to like it eitherway.

Yeah, the standard pellets might not /penetrate/ light armor, but at that energy they might just bloody do you in nonetheless. Internal injuries, broken ribs etc.

Anyway, real world number juggling aside, 2-3 shots on light armor targets is WAY too much for ingame balance. It's laughable really. At that point shotguns would be back to being useless, due to their slow cycling speed. People have turned and fired at me between sequential AKM/G3 shots - image that with a 1,5 second cycling speed. You'd be dead, basically everytime.
Heavy armor is a different story! Heavies should definitly be able to tank 1-2 shots to the chest(!).
